Welcome

Hi player! This blog is all about the do's and don'ts of how to apply for a rank/staff position on a server.  If you have questions or comments about this blog, send me a message! Thanks for reading!
About Me
Here's a small section about me, what I know, what I do, and why I decided to make this blog. First off, my experience. I have owned 8 servers over the years, I coded each and every one of them top to bottom. From website to plugins, I did it all. When I first started out, I had NO IDEA what I was doing, I made people staff left and right because they said they knew what they were doing... Well that was a slap in the face considering my server was completely and utterly trashed the next day when I got on. From that day forward, I met a few good friends in game. I eventually trusted them enough to make them staff, and thats when I really started to learn. I learned what a server should have, what to do, and how to run it properly. When I finally started up a website and received some applications, I was able to make a more informed decision on who I chose as staff, this time, things went better. Moral of the story, choose wisely my friends!
Where to start

  1. First things first, find a server. Find one that fits you, make sure its fully functional and well developed. Assuming that you are a beginner when it comes to staffing on servers, avoid the newer servers that are just starting up, as those tend to be poor learning experiences. Once you've found the server you like, play on it! Make sure to get a good solid amount of time on there, and build up a strong reputation, not only with staff/owners but with players in general, they are more likely to reccomend you to staff, and therefore increase your chances! When I say a good solid amount of time, I mean a GOOD amount of time, not an hour or two. Play on there for a few days/weeks even, once you feel comfortable on the server, and you have a good reputation move to step 2.

  2. Generally most servers have a website/application form you can fill out, if this is the case, go there, and read over the questions. If they ask you to apply in game, I would reccomend you steer away from that. Generally servers that tell you "Here, apply in this book for me." are not worth your time, a good, functional server, that fits your interests, is a server you should apply on, one that is also fully developed (and has an actual place to apply)!  Once you've found this sacred place, move to step 3!
  3.  Alright, straight to the point! Once you've read over the questions, thoroughly, and feel comfortable answering them, let's begin. Answer each question in HONESTY, and with heart. Make it count, you most likely only have one shot at this, so it better be worth your while. Below is a list of Do's and Dont's when answering these questions.
Do's
  1. "What can you bring to the server?" CORRECT ANSWER: I can bring experience, knowledge, maturity, and entertainment to the server. I know my skill's and I know how to apply them, I know the basic commands, and how to use them properly in game, I keep calm under pressure, and can withstand any situation that is thrown at me.
  2. "What experience do you have as being staff on servers?" CORRECT ANSWER: (Note this answer is based off of my experience, when filling in a question similar to this, make sure to use information that applies to you specifically.) I have plenty of experience as a staff member to bring to the server. I have owner 8 servers over the years I've been playing Minecraft, and I got my start from owning those servers by becoming staff on several servers. This has gotten me to the skilllevel im at today, which is beneficial to me staffing on your server.

Dont's
  1. "What can you bring to the server" WRONG ANSWER: Im super mature, im a cool guy and I know what im doing.
  2. "What experience do you have as being staff on servers?" WRONG ANSWER: I have been staff on plenty of servers, I have TONS of experience.

Conclusion

After all this is done, submit your application and resume playing, DO NOT ASK THE STAFF/OWNER TO CHECK YOUR APPLICATION!!! This is one of the most ANNOYING things on the planet for me. Staff reads applications when they can, not when you want them to. If you are accepted, thank the Owners/Staff, and resume playing normally, do what you're told, and don't abuse your newly gotten powers.
