Have you ever seen a server with a colored motd? I have, and I have decided to share with you how. First, open up your server.properties file. Go down to where it says
server.properties
motd=A Minecraft Server

Change "A Minecraft Server" to what you want your MOTD to be. Now choose what you want to be colored. Put one of these color codes in front of it:

Color Codes
§k Magic

I hope this helps! Remember to diamond, favorite and subscribe for more!

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, LINK TO A SCREENSHOT OF THE SERVER.PROPERTIES FILE AND YOUR SERVER VERSION!!!!!!!

Press the option key and 6 at the same time. If you don't have an option key, I think the alt key might work as well.
Edit Reply Delete
So I did use /u00A7 and nothing came up. I also did it without the slash mark and it didnt work either. Like everybody else, when I do use the weird symbol, I do get the colored text but the stupid question mark is there.
Edit Reply Delete
so, your issue is that you used the wrong slash, there's two kinds, the one that you used "/" which is the issue, and the other one "" the second one is the only one that should work, hope I helped!

Edit: the other slash is ""

double edit: sorry, i didnt realize that the other kind of slash cannot appear on this website, thats why it wasnt coming up in between the two quotation marks, the second slash is basically the same one you used originally but flipped around, i know that on mac its right below the delete button, and above the enter/return button, however i do not know where it is on pc. sorry for all the edits!

I use a mac and it works fine. Do option + 6 and you get: §. Tada!
Edit Reply Delete
@812402 and to others why are they having a question mark on the MOTD In-Game, it's because you actually use the sign §. You must use /u00A7.

Example: motd=/u00A7bTest/u00A7r /u00A7cExample/u00A7r

Thank you for giving us this info. It actually works fine using the symbol, you just have to write it in yourself instead of copying. For mac users, it's option 6, and for those who use windows, I it is alt 6 although it may not work on all pc's.

Edit Reply Delete
I got a mistake too. @812402, replace all / with
I didn't noticed that I put the wrong slash :P
Edit Reply Delete
Edit: Also, if you want to change colors to the next text, all you need to do is to add /u00A7r *this means restart* after the first text.

Yeah. Not sure about bukkit, but open up server.properties. Find motd (make sure the surver already used the motd)
Then you should see something close to "ua63/ua268/TEXT HERE"
The first part is the HTML code for "?". Delete that first code leaving only "/ua268" thats the color code. (These numbers will
Be different. Depending on the colors) then save and restart the server. Do that every time everytime before a color code. Just kinda experiment with it. If you need more help tell me. :)

Ah. The u00A7 is one way.
What you want to do is type: u00A7@

Replace @ with a color code! For example:
u00A7eColored Motd!

That will appear yellow.

1 Dark Blue
2 Dark Green
3 Teal
4 Dark red
5 Dark Purple
6 Gold
7 Light Gray
8 Dark Gray
a Light Green
b Super Light Blue
c Light Red
d Light Purple
e Yellow
f White
There more. Search it up!
Good luck.
