Hello PMC! Today i am here with a guide on how to make a megabuild!
Many people have asked me, "oh soulwind how do you make such big builds?" and i reply, "with i just bundle a ton of ideas that i get, and put them into one building." i have never really gone into depth about this though and this is where i shall explain it

1) Choosing which style of build
Firstly, you need to have an idea of what you want to build. is it a cathedral, is it a citadel, or is it a castle? ( The obvious but important, you don't want to start off with the idea of a castle then go making a cathedral.

Example 1 - Castle vs cathedral
Castles do not have long corridors like cathedrals

and here is a cathedral
Cathedral

As you can see the cathedral has a long hallway and the castle does not (WOW!)
you may think this part of the guide is unimportant but it does help, trust me. i myself have made the mistake of adding castle like features to a build not intended to be a castle and it ended up looking alot like one.

Now that the basics are done, lets get to explaining how to get your ideas.

2) Getting Ideas

now that you know what type of build you want to do you can now start getting ideas for what you want your build to look like.
Now this part may seem hard, and it will surely pain your head but its actually quite easy. what i like to do is look at other builds that are the same style you want to do, there is no harm is taking notes to as the things that catch your eye and you want to be a part of your build. for instance lets use a cathedral as our build of choice. while you are looking at a cathedral that you like, You spot a window shape that you want to use in your walls, you can take note of that and try to improve upon it yourself (its always better to try to improve something that you see because if not your build will start to look cliche).

3) Making your build
now here is the very important part; Do not restrain your limits of the build. why? because this is a mega-build. now obviously you gotta have in mind where you want to have the back of the build but make sure you go big.
never use the same wall over and over again unless its a specific part. you don't want your build to be extremely repetitive, so add variation! have different layers.

For Example,
- main base
- upper base
- extention's ( parts that you add in or on the build (like having courtyards and dividing hallways in between.)
- roof ( you can always add things in here so get creative)

Now don't think small! it will feel weird building huge if you are not used to it. big builds usually have windows that are atleast 15 blocks high minimum (Atleast for me) so don't hold back! each wall section will be huge, so be ready to get overwhelmed.

TIP: NEVER BUILD FLAT WALLS WITH NO SPLIT INBETWEEN PARTS OR THAT HAVE NO DEPTH/DETAIL

Depth and detail are some of the most important things in a mega-build, if you don't use enough it will be flat, if you use too much the build will look like a bunch of blocks thrown everywhere; and you don't want that.

Colour:
Make sure your palette (choice of building materials) work together nicely, you don't want to use two blocks that look bad together or blend too much because it will either look funny or you wont be able to see the detail.

How to use worldedit in your build: (thank you to coolkevin867 for suggesting this)
soulwind, i have gotten all my walls that i want to use in my build built but i dont know how to use worldedit! do not be afraid my friend because i shall explain this to you too!

Step 1)
you will need to get a wooden hatchet. this is the tool you will use for worldedit.

Step 2)
you now are going to need to set the two points to copy the section you want
example (open this)
Image

Now as you see in the picture you see two red blocks (position one and two)
stand up against the wall for postion one and look down.
now LEFT CLICK the red block.
now you will go up position two, and stand ontop of that red block
now RIGHT CLICK on that red block.

Step 3)
now you need to go back to where you stood for position 1 and type //copy

Step 4)
now how copy works is it will paste the wall infront of where you stood when you typed the copy command, so when you are ready to paste you have to keep in mind how many blocks away you were standing when copying.
when you are ready to paste type //paste

step 5) ROTATING
if you ever need to rotate a wall just type //rotate and it will rotate the wall by 90 degrees
(frankly i am really bad at this so i wont explain where you stand)

Here is a list of ideas i have compiled to help you add detail and other things to your build:
-Balcony's
-pillars (make sure you add detail)
-huge main entrance doors
-arches
-domes
-overhangs over walls

Thank you for reading! i hope this helped you with Mega building, if it did PLEASE leave a diamond, it is greatly appreciated. I will be adding more to this, i just need to keep reading it over and seeing what i missed, so check back often! I am not a great writer so if there's any mistakes please be kind c:

I would also like to thank everyone who has subscribed to me because i just recently hit 100! so thanks to all of you who have supported me!

like they regular sized megabuild like cathedrals and some sorts usually take 1 - 2 months depending on how much you work on it WITH WORLDEDIT builds that are over 300 x 300 usually take longer than that (atleast for me) the build i used for the picture of this blog i started in october 2012, and i planned it to be 900 x 900. i think its mostly not done because i havent ever really worked on it besides maybe 4 months. people like circleight, i have no clue how they do it to be honest

I think it would be really helpful if you add in portions about how you build (e.g. MC Edit, flat terrain or randomly generated, World Painter, etc.). Other than that, it is a great blog :)
