How To Make A Nice Skin

This blog will be talking about the following:

  • What the best program is for Mac and Windows (+ Download/Website links)
  • How to start making a simple skin
  • Tips and tricks for smooth shading
  • Ideas to help you start from scratch

Choosing Your App Or Website That Is To Use And Efficient

Windows:

MCSkin 3D - MCSkin 3D is a free application, which lets you create skins for mobs and players. It has a very simple layout, with an easy navigation. You can chose between 3 views. A 3D player model, an opened skin with labels, or both of these. I prefer to use both of these, as it is easier to see the correct place to draw.
Miners Need Cool Shoes - Miners Need Cool Shoes is a website where you can edit the skins very easily. I would recommend it to users who have no experience with skin editing at all, because it is probably one of the most simple and efficient websites for skin editing. It's layout is a net of the unfolded skin and theres also a 3D model, which you can rotate to see all sides. It has a color picker under the net layout, where you can chose the right colour you want.

Mac OSX:

Nova Skin - NovaSkin editor is a free to use website, where you can browse skins, import them into the edit, and make any changes to them. In this website, the thing that I like the most is that there are layers, where you can put multiple skins onto and erase a part of another skin, which you can then put on a part of another skin. It is best for remixing multiple skins. Novaskin also has an easy layout and is pretty efficient, especially for remixing skin. It has a color picker just like the Miners Need Cool Shoes, and it also has some other cool features, which you can check out for yourself.

Minecraft Skin Edit - Minecraft SKin Edit is a simple to use skin editing app for mac. It is free and efficient. It has a good layout of a net of the skin, which shows you every part of the body without having to rotate a character etc. This program is a really good program for smooth shading, because it has every shade of each colour going from light to dark. It has every shade (smooth) in a box, so you will find the perfect colour you want to shade easier.

Tips And Tricks Of Making A Good Looking Skin

Now I will give you some tips and trick on making a good skin.
1. Get an idea of the skin you would like to make. What will it be? (You don't have to be too specific).
2. Try to look at skins of your choice that people have already created. Get some inspiration of it and some ideas you really like (don't copy exactly what another person did)
3. You should start (best way) by doing the body/base first. This is the center of the whole skin where you will put basic colours and shapes on.
4. When you have got the basic shapes, add in some shadings to make it more appealing and realistic. Look below for the best and easiest way to shade.
5. After you have finished shading on every part of he body, add in some detail such as hair, eyes, headphones (optional), headwear (optional) etc.
6. If you finish the detail, you should be done with the skin. If you like the look of it and you think it's finished, upload it to PMC or another website.

Best And Easiest Way To Shade Skins

Now I will tell you the easiest way to add good shading into your skin. Trust me, this is the best way to do it!
Firstly, chose a light or dark colour. Light if you want to start with light then go darker. Dark if you want to start with dark and go onto light. After you have chosen one, chose a colour. With that colour, create a simple shape on the part of the body you want shading on. The best is in the middle of a body part or near the middle. After you have done that, chose the same colour, but make it a bit darker, not to much, just a little bit. Then go around the shape (without corners). Your skin should look something like this if you did that:

You repeat the process many times, making the colour lighter/darker every time you go around it. This is the best way to shade your skin.
At the end, a bodypart should look something like this:

You should either say "How to make a nice skin" or "Guide on making a nice skin" or maybe even "Make a nice skin guide." What the title suggests is that you're teaching us how to make a skin guide.
