Introduction:
Have you ever wondered how people make texture packs in MineCraft? Have you ever wanted to create your own? Or can you just not find that perfect texture pack for your self? If so, then this tutorial is meant for you!

What you need:
MineCraft
WinRAR (Or any other file archive program)
Photo Editing Program THAT SUPPORTS LAYERS (Photoshop, Gimp, ect. (NOT MS PAINT)
A decent sized brain (Size of a "pea" should be fine)

Follow along and do not skip any steps (No parentheses in any of this) (DO NOT EDIT THE PURPLE AREAS!):
Step 1: Go to "Start" -> "Run" -> then type "%appdata%"
Step 2: Find your .minecraft folder -> open it -> open the bin folder
Step 3: Right click on minecraft.jar -> Open With -> WinRAR (or your file archive program)
Step 4: Make a new folder on your Desktop. (Name it whatever your texture pack name is)
Step 5: Go to WinRAR and look for the following files and drag them into your folder on your desktop:
"Achievement"
"Armor"
"Art"
"Environment"
"gui"
"Item"
"misc"
"mob"
"terrain"
"Title"
"pack.txt"
"terrain.png"
"particles.png"
"pack.png"
Step 6: Once you have ALL of those files and folders in your new folder open up your photo editing program.
Step 6: Now this is where the fun stuff starts to happen! In your editing program open up "terrain.png" and edit the blocks that you want edited.
Step 7: Once you are done editing "terrain.png" replace it with the original "terrain.png" on that folder on your desktop.
WARNING: DO NOT EDIT THE BLUE SQUARE IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OR THE 2 BLOCKS THAT SAY "FIRE" ON THEM! THIS WILL CRASH YOUR GAME!
Step 8: Now in your folder on your desktop go to the "gui" folder and find "items.png" and edit those small images in your image editor program.
Step 9: Replace "items.png" in the folder in your desktop with the one you just edited.
Step 10: Open up the "pack.txt" file and delete what it says and put the description of your texture pack.
Step 11: Now you have the main blocks/items edited you can edit some extra stuff.

Before you start editing any other images you need to know what each folder does. (Read this before editing any other images)
Achievement Folder: Do not edit anything in this!
Armor Folder: Only Edit the armor if you know how to edit skins like that.
Art Folder: Edit all you want. These are the paintings you can place on walls in MineCraft. (Do not edit over the purple area)
Environment Folder: Do not edit!
Gui Folder: Be careful when editing files in here.
Item Folder: Edit items like doors, chests, boats, and signs in here.
Misc Folder: Only edit these files if you know what your doing. Foliage Color and Grass Color are the colors of the grass.
Mob Folder: Only edit if you know how to edit these kinds of skins!
Terrain Folder: Do not edit!
Title Folder: Pretty much everything in that folder is okay to edit.

Step 13: Make sure when you open up the .zip file and make sure the FOLDER you made on your desktop is not in there. If it is just move the contents of the file into the .zip and delete the folder.
Step 14: Go back to your .minecraft folder and click on the "TexturePacks" folder and drag your texture pack .zip file into it.
Step 15: Open up MineCraft -> go to Texture Packs -> find your texture pack and click it the click done. (If your texture pack has a gray image make sure you did everything right and if you think you did PM me with a link to your texture pack .zip file)

Is there a way you can get a file that has all textures in 1 file like the way you show us there? That seems so much easier than what you have to do now.
Hope you reply and give me the answer.
