What is up guys, its MattHey!

Wow, long time I didn’t post something here! Well, welcome to another of my blogs. People get on servers a lot these days, some are newbie managed servers and some are extremely well managed. Today I thought about how server Owners should organize their ranks on their server. A LOT of server get griefed, and bad rank administration is one of those reasons.  


Point 1: First login hunters
I often see people logging in on some servers and before even saying hi, they ask for moderator, admin etc. If you are a server owner, for sure, do Not do that. People would just some in your server, either spam or grief. Usually those people don’t want the good for your server.

Point 2: The Forum Post
If you really need some staff for your server, don’t spam it in the PMC chat, that’s where the griefers search.  You will need to make a forum post with your server’s information, what is the goal etc. That informs the people who want to apply.

Point 3: The Form
You want to know more about your personal, you want to see if they are interested, what they will do. To do that you need to make a form. A form’s structure depends on what type of position you want that person to apply: For example: Builder, Moderator, Redstone etc.

Ex:

Builder:
Ign:
Age (Minimum age 13):
Gender:
Country:
Type of build you make:
Screenshots:
Maturity:  ?/10
Etc.

You can decide of more stuff to complete your forms.

Point 4: The documents
I am a server owner, and I recruit some people to time to time. I get a lot of forms so I put them all together; I put them all in a Microsoft Word document. Like this: (let’s take the example from up top)

Ign: iluvbread123
Age (Minimum age 13): 12
Gender: Male
Country: Canada
Type of build you make: Medieval
Screenshots: I don’t have screenshots because I’m on my phone :)
Maturity: 9/10

Ok, you can see that this form isn’t the best, lets evaluate it. I evaluate it by putting some color on it, green is good, yellow is ok, and red is bad.
Let’s start:

Ign: Nothing wrong; green
Age: The minimum is 13 so that’s wrong, yellow because he isn’t 9 xD
Gender: We aren’t sexist (green)
Country: We aren’t racist (green)
I think you get the point

Point 5: The “Accept and Decline part”
Now you need to choose a few of those forms and accept them, because for sure they aren’t all perfect. The more you choose the harder it will be to manage! So be careful.

Point 6: Be in touch with them
A Staff always needs to be “in” the project, to do that you need also to be connected with them. I use Skype because it is for me easier. Wow, this blog is becoming a bit long, well thanks for reading till now! :D

Point 7: The permissions
I got on a server once, I applied and got Moderator. The Owner gave me Operator (op). That is an extremely bad idea. If you have some experience in programming Bukkit, well make your own Plugin (shoutout to Momothereal, go check him out!) , it’s a lot easier to manage than Essentials or those other Plugins on the web because if you have one customized, you can change whatever you want, and if there’s a bug.. tadaa you can repair it. So, by making your own plugin or getting one on the web, give your staff some permissions, not op. For example Builders can only use tp and gamemode 1.

Point 8: Are they still alive?
If you haven’t seen one of your staff on the server for a long time, it’s time to say bye bye. He needs to be implicated in the project!
