The real joy of gaming is usually thanks to mods; your entire experience can be improved by the work of dedicated fans or even yourself. Some mods are so extensive that a mod could change the whole game for better or worse. Mods are commonly known to be on PC games, especially in Minecraft. They are a large number of mods in Minecraft that alters the game to produce new forms of entertainment. There seems to be an endless amount of mods of Minecraft, but most popular ones are Thaumcraft,Natura, ComputerCarft and Hunger Overhaul. These mods create a new lease of life for the popular PC game and Mincecraft is not the only game to contain Mods. Mods are, above almost anything else, one of the keys to the PC gaming kingdom. A celebration of the community, and a pointer to how creative we gamers truly can be, mods improve, change, or overhaul our favourite games. Like I said, mods have completed changed games- you could play as your favourite DC superheroes in Grand Theft Auto 5 or tackle those online slots on Just Cause 2: multiplayer, if your good at creating these mods, the entertainment can last for every.

So here are some of the best in gaming:

Just Cause 2 – Multiplayer

This was more of an experiment than a mod but when Avalanche confirmed before Just Cause 3 release that there would be no multiplayer on it, a sizeable portion of PC gaming’s player based sighed. However there ended of being a mod that could fit over 1000 people on the same enormous map, resulting in some of the most hilarious and explosive multiplayer this medium has ever seen.

DayZ (Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead)

This mod was so good that there’s now a best-selling standalone game available of it now, yet the Arma 2 mod is still arguably the most completed version yet. If you just want to play the mod rather than the game, just buy the fairly cheap Combined Operations package on steam and you’ll gain access to one of the most addictive survival horror games going.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 – The Sith Lords Restored

For the Star Wars fan out there, the Knights of the old republic sequel was rather disappointing. The content was good, but just seemed to miss chunks out of the plot development leaving feeling a bit lost with the game. This project takes an unfinished game and finishes it. It's pushing the limits of my "must be transformative experience" rule for this list, but seeing as what it does salvages and restores a great game I wouldn't otherwise recommend, it makes the cut. Just.

Half-Life 2 – NeyoTokoyo

One of the most visually distinctive Half-Life mods ever made, NeoTokyo takes its round-beginning respawn structure from Counter-Strike but has a cinematic flair all of its own. Locations recall the films of the Wachowskis - all moving trains and colourful, glass-filled lobbies. The pacing is slow and tactical, maps are geared towards ambushes and flanking, and death comes quick and easy.

GTA 4 – Superman Script

Whether or not you consider Saints Row IV to have made this redundant really depends on how much of a DC fan you are. Armed with the cape and underpants, you’ve got access to all the super stuff: heat vision, fast sprinting, incredible strength, and invincibility, car-chucking and, of course, flying. Brilliantly, you can use lamp posts as Nico would baseball bats.
