Heya everyone!
I feel like telling you what's coming up in the next updates of Minecraft up to the ASU (Account System Update), so for people who don't know what to expect, they can start preparing maps, mods etc.
1.5.2 Update - Comes out April 2013
-Minecraft Realms changes
1.6 Update - Comes out May 2013
-Dropped support for Java 5 and PowerPC users (a warning message will be shown at main menu)
-An update for the Minecraft Launcher
-A new mob called HorseÂ
Plugin API Update - Unknown when this is coming outÂ
-Easier to find, download and install plugins (though the API won't be the same as Bukkit)
-Plugins will be multiplayer compatible
-To make mods (to be known as plugins) easier to install and less prone to completely corrupt your game
-The official Minecraft website will be revamped to help bring the most interesting community plugins and custom maps to the surface
-Easier to add and animate models
-Changes the game's way of storing data regarding its many items and materials

Note this is not a game update, which means it will not modify the game itself and will be applied no matter what version you are playing (1.3 for example)
-The possibility to change your existing username and to change the e-mail address associated with your account
-Global Mojang accounts can be merged with Minecraft, Cobalt and Scrolls
-The possibility of the long-awaited online synchronization of achievements and statistics of users
-IGN will be changeable, but all usernames on Minecraft have to be unique (it doesn't matter if its a legacy Minecraft account or a Mojang account), however it is not known how it will be adapted to server whitelists and blacklists
