In 1.7 I was really getting psyched about how the terrain looked. It varied in height, it had cave systems running all the way up through the mountains, and you would only have to walk a short distance through the woods to find an awesome mountain that you could customize or do something with. Now with 1.0.0, there are now fewer mountains, they don't have any trees on them anymore, and when you do find a fairy decent mountain, it's almost too crazy to modify. The mountains are also few and far between, meaning that if you don't have Single Player Commands, you have to walk a long time through really boring biomes like the swamp or grasslands in order to get there. I personally find that the excitement of Minecraft lies in the exploration and modification of maps. With 1.0.0, I have just found the maps to be more similar and unoriginal. Aside from the mountains which can be extremely different but unrealistic, The biomes are generally the same. swamps, deserts, and even forests now are staring to get dull and flat. In 1.7 the ground would be constantly changing, forests were interesting because you couldn't tell what was next, maybe a waterfall, maybe a large hill, or maybe you reached the end of the rolling hill forest and found the sea. I don't know whether this has been the experience of everyone, but my maps in 1.7 and 1.8 ruled. I wish i could play on those maps again instead of these "new and improved" biome filled maps.
