Introduction:

Hello again, to the few people that bother to read these blogs. Recently, i've realized how much sexism, racism, swearing, and mention of more private bodyparts are used casually in minecraft multiplayer chats. In my opinion, these things are completely unneccesary, and why people talk like this, and speak about this is completely beyond me. So, i have decided to compose a blog on this topic, and maybe, if we get enough people to band together, maybe we can reduce the usage of these things in minecraft.

My view on the subject.

Really, i know that a lot of the people in minecraft are teenagers, and they're going through a big change in their life, and it's hard. Okay, i get that. But i don't think it's an excuse to use expressions like what the f***k f**kbrain or: Your server is run by cr*pheads isn't behavior or language that should ever be neccesary. These things are inexcusable. We need to stop these things from happening.

Experiences I've had with the subject.

I administrate/moderate on a few servers, and i can't tell you how many times someone has sworn at me, been a racist or sexist, or talked about things that should be left un-talked about. Almost all of these times, i have muted/kicked/ or in an extreme situation even banned a player for such offenses. Also, when some players think i have made a ban that i shouldn't have, or think i'm just a dumb person, (what? seriously? you tell me i'm dumb just because i'm a figure of authority?) they go on a swearing, insulting, and sometimes even griefing rampage, until they get banned themselves. It's quite incredible how often these things get people banned, and most of the time, the situation gets so serious, i don't think twice about their punishment. Don't be this kind of person. The person that everyone hates, and tells the staff members of a server to ban.

What causes this behavior?

Sometimes, people say these things out of pure anger. Sometime's they're frustarated, Sometimes something is happening to their life in the real world that is just making them so stressed out they need to let it out in a way like this, or other times it can just be plain mad about something. But other times, it's just the way they are. Again, it isn't an excuse to have this kind of behavior, but, it is a reason it happens. So, sometimes, you just need to leave these people alone, and let them cool down.

What can we do about this issue?

In some cases, there isn't much we can do. But, in most, there is. Occasionally, if someone swares, just politely ask them to not use that kind of language. If somebody is being sexist, just tell them "boys are just as good as girls." or "girls are just as good as boys" and at the end of each sentence maybe you'll want to add a "please be respectful." These will all help you. Now, the topic of somebody being racist. This one is a little harder to give advice on without sounding racist myself. (which i am not. All people are created equal.) But, if somebody is trash-talking another race, something you could tell them would be "Excuse me, but talking about people like that isn't okay. Everyone is equal. No one is better than anyone, and no one is worse than anyone." On the subject of mention of innapropriate body parts (which sadly has become the second most common topic mentioned here) well, i find giving advice on this one is even harder, if i'm trying not to sound gross myself. The thing is, these people are usually trying to troll you. I think the best thing you can do in this situation is say: "Please stop that, you're being disgusting. I don't want to be here, if i have to endure you speaking like this." Now, occasionally, people will combine these things just to be mean in general. (i hate it when this happens.) Now, if this happens, if you are the bystander, stand up for the person being tormented. This may sound kind of stupid, but maybe you could say something like: "Stop that. You're being a bully." or "You shouldn't pick on someone like that. It isn't an admirable quality." If you're the person BEING tormented, you can pretty much say the same. Or, this may have less effect, but you could say "Please stop that." The reason i'm suggesting these things is, they've worked for me. Sometimes, the person has even apologized. One time, after i told somebody that they were being gross and that they should stop, they said: "Oh, Okay. I'm very sorry. I won't say anything like that again." And, to this day, they have kept their word. Now, in some cases, you just can't stop the person from saying these things, and that is when more drastic measures have to be taken. You can never change who a person is, but sometimes you can help to correct their behavior.

Closure.

Thank you all for reading this blog. I hope you enjoyed reading, and i hope the advice given to you by me will help you in the future, or even in the present. In one of ZexyZek's trolling videos, the guy he was trolling combined swearing, racism, and stupidity in the chat. Once, the guy being trolled even said something that included the phrase "NAZI CUCUMBER". The guy also had a hacked sword.

I see where this is coming from SkullduggeryCain, but it's just how minecraft servers/the internet is. You can't change it I can't change it no one can change it. Lets say there is a world where there is no bad stuff on the insternet/minecraft/all games ever ever game ever it would be pretty boring I'm not saying being racist is good I get a lot of it. and most of the time when someone say a "bad" word it's funny. (crapheads is not bad in the least bit)

"We need to stop these things from happening."

Who are you to tell people what they can or cannot do in their freetime? Who are you to make the judgement on what people can or cannot say in their own minecraft environment? Who are you to determine that this practice of saying words such as 'fuck' or 'crap' is inherently wrong?

And more importantly...

What makes you think that the general population gives a flying fuck about these arbitrary strict moral codes which you are trying to throw at them?

Once you realise that society does not need nor want a moral dictator such as yourself, you will realise that the practice of trying to censor the internet is not dissimilar to pissing in the wind.

Ooh, look at me! I am TobyShaw, and I am spokesperson for the internet! I am the leader of freedom everywhere!

With me protecting the internet, I will allow NO person to express disgust for flagrant profanity or give their opinions unmolested. In fact, after I belittle your opinion and tell you how worthless you are, I will then tell you that your opinions are wrong because it is wrong to tell others that their opinons are wrong. Wait, what?

Toby, Skullduggery's opinions about morality and censorship are completely his own, and need no guidance from yourself. And as soon as your realize that the internet does not want or need a spokesman such as yourself, you will realize that trying to censor others' opinions is not dissimilar to pissing in the wind.

P.S. Common sense and a good upbringing will determine that the "practice" of vulgarity is inherently wrong, but I bet you're still in that cute rebellious phase, huh? Screw what Mommy and Daddy say.

So PMC messed up and I lost my message. Can't be bothered to rewrite it because you're not worth the effort.

TL;DR: If OP was offended by what I wrote, he would have responded by now. Evidently he didn't care and so he does not need Keyboard Warrior xMrSchmidtx to defend him.

This was originally a disagreement between OP and myself, (hint: it's an opinionated site, so this is allowed). You come in here all condescendingly calling me an immature teenager despite not even realising that this discussion does not concern you. (hint: starting arguments is pretty immature if you ask me)

All you proved here was that you are apparently unaware of the fallacy of hypocrisy, whether intentionally ironic or not. If you truly believed that it was foolish of me to disagree with this guy, why on earth are you lowering yourself to disagree with me in the comments section of this blog.

I would report your post for spam since it serves no purpose and goes completely off-topic, but that would be hypocritical of me. ;)

Besides...

It's not so much his disgust of vulgarity which I disapprove of. It's
his intent and desire to act upon this which I find completely foolish and it would be a shame if anyone acted with this mindset.

It's the internet, bro. I wasn't coming to his defense, I was disagreeing directly with you. I did not see a conversation (indeed, I still don't), I saw some troll trolling on what is evidently a well-meaning article on vulgarity (although he may just be interested in having moderators see it in the first place).

If you're the kind of person who would troll on a person's blog because you had a disagreement with him, then you deserve to have that trolling addressed. If that upsets you, go home kid.

"...his intent and desire to act upon this..." That's what people with convictions do when they feel something strongly. Maybe you should try having a conviction sometime.

P.S. You don't have to type like you're crapping a dictionary out all the time. "...apparently unaware of the fallacy of hypocrisy, whether intentionally ironic or not." What?
