Is the Minecraft Community Dumbing Down? Or is this just a new beginning?

The Servers and Community of Yesterday -
The servers that we all used to play on were all about survival and co-operations with other players. I loved that, I also liked to make a server with that aspect. The minecraft community was small and just begining, although a lot more players began to play, and I think that is great that Mojang got the game to progress into a larger community (but thats a later discussion). Yesterday's server as I like to call it, wasn't about getting everything handed to you and creative mode, also minigames. These servers were meant to work together and survive, just like the game inteanded. But Mojang did let us mod the game to our own extent, but did that get out of hand and ruin the game as we used to know?

The Servers and Community of Today -

Today we have a different aspect of the game. Most of us now just want to be in creative and have everything handed to us (like 8 year olds begging for an iPhone these days). I just find this isn't right. Today I find that all servers with a good amount of people is just creative modes and bad minigames. I really want to get back into server creating, but all people expect are these games. I like the idea of survival and co-op. Not screaming at each other competing at a minigame. Another thing I find bad with today's community is that we are forced to pay to get "special access" when all it is, is the same thing. Server owners make us pay to join servers, play certain games, and be overpowered in said game. All just because you gave away your money to some stranger. Is this the downfall of survival? Or is this the beginning of a new game?

The Serveers and Community of Tomorrow -
But what about the near future? Will Minecraft just be a source for minigames and screaming children? Do we want this to be call of duty? Of course not. (sorry for bad format it got all screwy on me) I believe that we will soon just forget the fact that survival was the entire point of this game. If you guys want I will create a server that is strictly survival, no games no hand outs. Feel free to comment your opinion and start discussions. Thanks!

What about minecraft, the creative tool? So many wonderful building communities out there say Minecraft can be used to create art - and, if you say video games aren't art, they are. Refer to the Museum of Modern Art's aquisition of five video games, including Myst and Pac-Man. You're only looking at the negative change - the downfall of survival; a new, foreign, game - instead of looking at the creations people have been making all this time. Creative is not eight-year-olds begging for an iPhone. Creative is artists using the limited tools at their disposal to make art. They have entire canvases made of entire worlds. Maybe this is a new game. Maybe survival has fallen. But I think Creative is just fine.

Multiplayer isn't everything, singleplayer exists, and it's been the way you mentioned for a year by now. (At least)

zhbrzgx has a point the dumb community is old news the only way you are gonna get a server of your liking is if you host it yourself

I remember Kables Server, the best server ever. It was a 18 slot 1.2.5 server, the people were nice, everyone was friendly, everyone were helping each other. It was beautiful.

I've been playing MInecraft since Beta, it was awesome back then. All survival. I look at servers now and like you said screaming people and minigames. I love the minigames, but the fact that you have to pay for a lot of things is kinda stupid. Mojang's EULA has changed. I still wonder, can you make money off of YouTube playing the game? I see this game now and I think of the latest snapshot... Bunnies? I always thought of bunnies in Mo' Creatures Mod. Same with water dungeons. I remember the useless sponge, not anymore. One of the first servers I joined was a snow biome with a castle and a lot of awesome buildings, my brother and I built a little house next to a little pool. I loved those servers. You can still find some but not many. I've thought of leaving Minecraft and focus something else, but all my friends play it. They enjoy it still. I've just kinda had enough.

Seriously, nothing much has changed, but it soon will with the EULA change. I disagree with pretty much everything you were arguing agenst, mostly because of the fact that it depends on what server you play on and nothing else. If you choose to play on a server that has lots of minigames and paid ranks that's all up to YOU. It's really what server you join. There's lots of pure survival servers out there. It's up to the server owners what to do with the server, but it's up to you whether you play on there or not.

Atleast it isn't Battlefield 4, where you have to pay to have a server hosted miles away. It's barely config-able unless you go to rconnet.de :/

In the time it took you to write this blog, I bet you could've found a server that you were envisioning ;L
