Hello everyone! Welcome to my first of many blogs! I'm going to be starting a pixel art series called Kawaii Street.
Throughout this series I am going to be slowly adding new shops and houses to the street. I'm going to be trying to challenge myself with perspectives, colour palettes and shading. I hope to really improve my pixel art skills with each new building and that you guys will enjoy the new pieces that I add to the street.
Quick Note: This is my first every pixel art scene and I am still very new to this so please bare with me.
The first building is this adorable bakery:
I tried to make it half cute, half retro and I think it turned out super well. There are lots of cakes and pies in the shop window and I also managed to fit my cat Bibble into it! I think this took me around 4-5 hours in total and if you would like to see the process, keep reading.
So I first off started with a basic black and white lineart as you can see here:
This was just me mapping out the basic shaped and getting used to perspectives and such.
Next I used evenly spaced greyscale from black to white so I could start implementing some shades:
Here I was trying to figure out how to make a 2D drawing appear 3D without going isometric. Basic Depth was starting to appear and I began to have hope that this was going to turn out somewhat alright.
After that I picked myself a little colour palette that allowed me to use a few different colours whilst still sticking to shades:
And all that was left to do after that was get colouring! This part took me way too long as I was trying to figure out how to make it include all the colours without looking like they were clashing. In this stage I also started to look for tips from friends on things I could correct and add and this led me to make a lot of changes with the general lineart, adding birds, extra signs, more fairy lights, window silhouettes etc. And with that came the final product:
I hope you enjoyed reading and looking at this pixel art! I would appreciate suggestions in the comments for what buildings you would like to see next!
