Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you have to be in the same area as the person to play on it, hence the (Local Area Network) part.. .-.

Most LAN connections don't reach outside of an average house's area. You may get to play with your neighbor in a suburban area or something, but you can't really go too far.
