Please Note: The following fanfic is set before the events of season 10 (March of the Oni). If anything happens in the show afterwards that contradicts this story, it should just be accepted as an alternate universe.

Misako's heart warmed hearing her son laugh. She knew how rare it had been for him, especially within the past few years. Not wanting the noise to end, she decided to tell more of the story.
“When I tried to get Wu ice, he insisted he was fine. Before trying to get up, then sitting back down against the wall.” Misako said, causing herself to chuckle as she remembered how stubborn Wu is.

At that, Lloyd gave a small chuckle. A few seconds passed, and the two fell silent, both with smiles on their faces. Then Misako stared at her son with a sympathetic, almost pitiful expression. Lloyd caught on to the change and asked:
“What? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing's wrong,” Misako replied.
“Mom, you can tell me.”
“I just realized how rare it has become to hear you laugh.”

Lloyd was going to contradict his mother but quickly realized she was right, however, noted that not a lot funny happened these past years. He looked at Misako expectingly, and she decided to continue.
“I… I’m worried about you, that’s all. What if you get hurt in your next battle? What if what I suggested doesn’t work? What if-”
“What if I don’t get hurt in the next battle? What if what you suggested works and even if it doesn’t are you telling me we aren’t smart enough to come up with something else?” Lloyd asked, smirking as he finished.

Misako smiled back, realizing that she was almost as frantic as Lloyd was earlier.
“I suppose the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to What If’s,” Misako said smiling.
“I guess so!” Lloyd said, smiling back.

There was a moment's pause between the two.
“So, what now?” Lloyd asked.
“Now we see if our plan works and go from there. Other than that, there’s only one choice for you to make.” Misako replied.
“What?”
“Are you going to tell the ninja what we found out about you?”
“Not now, I think I want to find something to control my anger first. It should be easier for me to tell them once I know our plan works.”

Misako was about to speak yet was interrupted by the sound of the door opening and familiar voices were heard in the hallway. Without speaking a word, she nodded her head at Lloyd. He smiled in reply, and before long everyone was in the kitchen getting ready to start the day.
