LEGO Ninjago Painful Legacies ( part 1 ) Skylor

Please Note: The following fanfic is set before the events of season 15 (Seabound). If anything happens in the show afterwards that contradicts this story, it should just be accepted as an alternate universe.

๐’๐ฒ๐ง๐จ๐ฉ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ: Ever wonder what it’s like running a noodle business in a crazy city full of ninja and criminals? Skylor could tell you. She’s well known across Ninjago for her famous noodles. Yet, some know her as the master of amber or a member of the resistance. Heck, some just know her as “That girl that hangs out with Kai a lot.” In the end, there’s a lot more to her than that.

Skylor began unloading the truck full of supplies to last the restaurant another week or two. She always insisted on doing the job alone since she knew how heavy the boxes could be. Not to mention, with her powers, the task became much easier to complete. Once everything was in its place, she began walking towards the cash register, where an older man assisted customers. Once the customers left, Skylor spoke,
“I assume there were no troubles this time?”
“Nothing of concern.” The older man replied.
“Good. You can take your break now Shan. I’ll take things from here.”

Shan nodded his head and walked towards the back, to a door marked “employees only.” Skylor took a breath and looked around. She noticed how quiet it was, then proceeded to look at the clock that read 6:00 PM. That’s why it was quiet, most of her reservations weren’t till after 6:30. Good thing I sent Shan on break. He should be back just in time. She thought to herself. Time passed as customers came and went. Then when 6:15 PM came around Shan returned.
“Would you like me to take care of the pickup orders?” Shan asked.
“That would be great. It should just be the usual orders but let me know if it becomes too much to handle.” Skylor replied.

The supper rush came around, and more customers began to trickle into the restaurant. Most had reservations beforehand, but even for those who didn't have a reservation, Skylor made sure there was a spot for them. There were even several familiar faces. Ronin and his family came to celebrate his little girl's birthday, of which Skylor made sure to make a grand entrance when coming out with the cake. Even Cole came to pick up the order for the ninja: noodles, cake, sushi, and several fortune cookies. Skylor remembered it by heart due to what was written in the notes section when the order was placed. "No puffy potstickers" It made her chuckle as she realized who placed the order just by that alone.

When all was said and done, several of the staff began the process of cleanup. Skylor brought back all the dishes and went to check on the kitchen staff and made sure Shan took his break. All while other staff wiped and sanitized the vacant tables and menus. Skylor looked at the clock and saw it read 8:30 PM. Eventually, families began to head home. At this moment, Skylor began to wander. Normally, the interesting bunch starts walking in after 9:00 PM. Since the pickup orders slowed down at this time, Skylor approached Shan, who just came back from his break and took his position at the cashier.
"I'll be in my office calculating the tips, dividing them up among everyone, along with making sure everyone is all good. You know what to do if anything happens." Skylor said, while glancing at the button hidden under the cash register.

Shan nodded, realizing where she was looking.
"Hopefully, it won't have to come to thatt Shan said.
"I have that installed for a reason, we're located in Ninjago City, downtown no less," Skylor said.
"I know what to do."
"Fine." Skylor said.

Then she proceeded to head towards her office.

“Seventy, seventy -one, seventy -two, seventy -three.” Skylor counted out loud.

She then wrote on a spreadsheet the number seventy-three for the amounts of tips earned. Then, calculated how much everyone would receive by dividing by how many staff working. Skylor began putting six dollars and sixty-three cents in each separate small container with the names of the employees working today. Once the spreadsheet was filled out, she grabbed a cash drawer from a safe to her right and was prepared to go exchange with the cash register out front.

Just as Skylor was preparing to head to the front, she noticed a red light turn on. She turned her head to a computer that showed video surveillance all around the restaurant. It showed two Sons of Garmadon threatening Shan with daggers.
"Them again," Skylor said in annoyance.

This wasn't her first encounter with Nails and Chopper Marroon. They weren't responsible for the major damage done to the city, so they were released from prison very quickly. Much to Skylor's annoyance, she found the law very lenient in that way. Thus, she found ways for justice to be served her way. She locked her office and headed swiftly towards the front.
"What did I tell you two about showing up here? Or did I not make it clear the first time?" Skylor said in a firm tone.

For a second, she noticed both men flinched, then turned towards her.
"We're not scared of you, Skylor! Right nails." Chopper Maroon said.
"Right. “Nails affirmed.

They couldn't be this stupid, she thought. The two men proceeded to point their daggers at her. At this, Skylor smirked.

From outside of Chen's Noodle House, it was quiet. Not many people were out, and very few cars drove by. That was until the front door opened and you saw a woman carelessly holding two men by the back of their shirts, then tossing them out hard onto the sidewalk. The two men got up, and without looking back, ran off to who knows where.

Skylor walked back in, where everyone was cheering. She proceeded to say no thanks where necessary, then went to pick up two daggers off the floor.
“Shan, I know you can defend yourself. Why don’t you? Those two weren’t even a threat.” Skylor asked.
“Fighting isn’t my thing, plus you have a way to come across as intimidating just because everyone knows your last name,” Shan replied.
“Alright, I see your point,”
“Plus, I know you enjoy putting people in their place,”

At this, Skylor smiled. Then Skylor thought of Shan’s words. As much as she hated to admit it, her last name did strike fear in criminals in Ninjago thanks to her father. Although, she mentally noted how she didn’t do much to change that. Skylor made sure it was clear where you stood with her. She either liked you, or you were tossed onto the sidewalk.

Skylor walked back to her office and placed the weapons on the desk. She’d take them back to her apartment later, but for now, they could stay there. She proceeded to switch the cash drawers and prepared to close for the night. When midnight came, many staff began to punch out until it was just her and Shan closing.
“I’m amazed at how similar yet different you are to your father,” Shan said while putting on his coat.

Skylor paused in her tracks.
“What do you mean? “Skylor asked.
“You certainly are more caring than your father and smarter. Not to mention you don’t lie.” Shan said, walking towards the front.
“How are we similar then?” Skylor scoffed.
“You both have a strange obsession with installing buttons anywhere you can.” Shan said, motioning his head towards the cash register.
“Have a good night, Shan.”
“I believe it’s morning, so have a good morning Skylor.”
“Very well, have a good morning, Shan.”

Skylor took one last glance at the clock it read, 12:58 AM. She made sure everything was locked up and then headed to her apartment located in the upper part of the building. Upon entering, she turned on the lights and walked to a gas fireplace. She pressed a button hidden within the stone bricks. In an instant, the upper part of the fireplace opened, revealing an assortment of weapons from katanas, a crossbow, shurikens, and multiple daggers. She didn’t think twice before putting the two daggers from her recent adventure into the assortment. Then she pressed the button again, and it returned to a stone brick wall.

Maybe I do have an obsession with buttons, Skylor thought to herself. Regardless, at least she wasn’t crazy like her father was with them. She just had a few scattered about, not a whole button pad to control a chair to do foolish things. At the thought of that stupid chair, she grew agitated. He probably cared more about that chair than her. No, she thought. He doesn’t deserve any thought after all he’s done. She sighed, then took a seat on a couch. Before long, she laid down and fell asleep.

Several hours later, Skylor slowly opened her eyes and stretched out her arms. She walked towards her kitchen and glanced at the clock displaying 10:24 AM. She was tempted to head to her room and go back to sleep but concluded she’d probably just stare up at the ceiling. The restaurant didn’t open till four, meaning if you accounted for the thirty minutes it took to open up, she had a few hours to spare. She cooked herself a quick breakfast, changed, then headed out.
“Good morning Skylor!” Nelson said, tossing her a newspaper. All she had time to do in response was wave before him, and Antonia rode off on their bikes.

Skylor picked up the newspaper and tossed it onto the couch before heading out. She had no clear destination, but sometimes just walking around and paying attention to everything around you was the perfect pastime. She enjoyed seeing everyone out and about, especially after what happened with the Sons of Garmadon.
“Hey, Skylor!”

Skylor turned to see Kai and the rest of the ninja all walking toward her.
“What are all you doing out and about? Are you looking for someone?” Skylor asked.
“Sheesh! We can’t just walk around Ninjago City.” Kai replied sarcastically.
“Fair enough, but something tells me you had a reason to leave the monastery.” Skylor said, staring at Jay and Lloyd.
“Yeah, these two had to go and pick up a precious comic book and dragged us along.” Kai scoffed.
“We didn’t drag you along, me and Lloyd said we’re going out not my fault you never asked where before you decided to tag along. Right, Lloyd?” Jay said.
“What? Oh… yeah.” Lloyd replied, clearly lost in the pages.
“Anyways hopefully we can get more accomplished today than stopping at a comic bookstore. See you this weekend Skylor.” Kai said.
“See you then. “ Skylor replied.

As the ninja continued to walk, Skylor could hear them teasing Kai.
“K.I.S.S.I.N.G” The Ninja chanted.
“Oh, knock it off will ya!” Kai shouted.

At this, Skylor chuckled. She found it funny that her and Kai were practically in an unspoken relationship. Her and Kai had been close since her father was cursed. Heck, it’s not like they tried to keep it hidden how close they were. Kai had come to her restaurant on several occasions just to talk to her or seek advice. Yet every day more, and more people were amazed to find the two together.

After her walk, Skylor entered her apartment, picked up the newspaper, and read the main headline; several criminals still free after Unigami’s defeat. She decided to read on to see who these so-called criminals were. Most she didn’t recognize, but two caught her attention, the Mechanic and Ultra Violet. In her eyes, those two were the main ones that could cause a threat, or at the very least, do some damage. The Mechanic had a habit of running away if he knew he was losing, and UV wasn’t much without the Sons of Garmadon. Skylor stared blankly at the newspaper. These criminals weren’t a threat compared to her father. She remembered the physical pain her father caused as he ripped the powers out from the elemental masters, but also the psychological pain he caused. As with just a few lies, he turned an entire alliance against each other.

She placed the newspaper on the living room table, prepared to tilt her head back. That was until she glanced at the clock in the kitchen, which read 3:26 PM.
“Shhh… Shoot” Skylor said out loud, quickly locking her apartment and heading downstairs towards the restaurant.

Fun fact: This story started because I noticed Skylor would have a slight sudden change in mood whenever someone mentions her father.
