Making A Texture Pack?
A easy tutorial on how to make one, including pictures to help from my own up and coming texture pack. Here we go!
Step 1:
Step one:
Create a file on the desktop and call it what ever you want eg: use the name of texture pack or "resource pack"
Search %appdata%, to get up the roaming file, scroll down to minecraft, open it and click versions. (Or with mac use Finder's 'Go to folder...' command (⇧⌘G) and type in or copy this- ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft)

Step 2:
Step two:
Select which version you want your texture pack to be for, for me i will be using 1.6.4. Open up the file and open the version .jar using 77zip, winrar ect. Copy the assets folder and place it into your new folder on the desktop.
Step 3:
Step 3:
Download the two files below, and place both of the files into your folder on the desktop. You can now edit the icon of the texture pack (the png file), along with all of the item/mob textures inside the assets folder.

Step 4:
Step 4:
Here comes the fun part, editing and playing with your texture pack :D Find the programe for you. Personally i use GIMP, but you could use Paint.net or photoshop. Here are the links to gimp and paint.net. I know gimp is safe, but when downloading anything make sure you know exactly what it is and if it is safe

Paint.Net
To get started with the editing, select the steve, zombie, or creeper file/png (or any thing else) and open it with your selected programme. Use the pen tools and change the colours, or open as a layer a skin of your own and delete the vanilla Minecraft texture layer.
Step 5:
Step 6:
Open Minecraft, select your texture pack, and play!
