Meeting new people on Minecraft - Is there anyone sane out there?!

It's a cruel world out there. Sane people who you can get on with are hard to find. If youo re like me, the kind of person that hops from server to server, talking to loads of different players and 'meeting' new people from around the world, you may have come to realise this. Not only will you know how strange and worrying peopleo s choices of username can get, youo ll also be aware of the huge amount of variation of human beings in the world. So I decided to categorize and list them all here.

• The people that are always AFK.
  

How can they be busy enough to be inactive on Minecraft that long? Why not just log off? Surely that would save electricity and make the bill a bit easier for your parents to pay? I feel like Io ll never get an answer to these questions.

• The people that dono t say anything.
  

They might as well be in single-player. I appreciate they might be busy building a dirt house or getting massacred by mobs but still, thereo s always time to chat.

• The o buttero fans.
  

The less said about them, the better.

• The ones that say o not mucho when you say o whato s up?o
  

Seriously. Youo ve taken the time and effort to start a conversation and sometimes thereo s just no other way to start it. How are people going to make friends, meet new people, show their personality or gain respect by opening with o not mucho (or even worse, o nmo ) which is one of the most horrific instant conversation killers known to man.

• The people who are out of your league.
  

Sometimes you log in, and lets face it, you feel pretty intimidated. What are you supposed to say to a guy whoo s a member of staff, clearly older than you and who already has his own tight group of friends? Once you realize heo s only spoken to you out of pity, ito s tempting to log out as quickly as possible, tail between your legs, before they can make you feel any smaller.

• The people whose league youo re out of.
  

Ito s nice to have these people around. They make you aware that youo re not the biggest noob in the room. However, with a limited vocabulary that clearly shows theyo re too young to be playing on a server with swear words being tossed around (I believe people aged under 13 shouldno t be playing Minecraft), they dono t exactly make great conversation. You cano t relate to them. Ito s like having to sit in on a class full of five year olds.

• The trolls
  

I still don't really know what these are. Are they human? Are they green? But I heard once that if you can recognise a troll, that troll has failed to be a troll.

• The people who tell you their life story.
  

Yes, these players may be good for conversation. But when your chat box starts to fill with ramblings to which you dono t know how to respond, it can get a little awkward. And dull. Oh, so dull.

• The people who say random things.
  

I love these people. The way to start a good discussion is by bringing up something interesting completely and hilariously out of the blue. And the players that do this. Theyo re just perfect.

If you're one of these people then...I'm not sorry. Think seriously about your life. (Unless you're the last one.) Trolololol.
