First be sure you have installed all of your mods and plugins correctly as well as making sure they are compatible and your texture pack is supported by the mods you are using.

If you are using anything bigger than 16x16 download MCPatcher and run the program and check the HD Textures box and click patch. Then simply run minecraft like normal.

If you are still having problems:
What operating system are you on?
I'm assuming thats a laptop and you are running Windows 7.
Go to your desktop, right click "My Computer" Select Properties, Are you on 32 bit or 64 bit?
If you are on 64 bit you need to download Java 64 bit. By default most computers have 32 bit.

Your problem is if you are running Vista or Windows 7 you will not have enough RAM.
To free up more memory turn off "Superfetch"

1. Click the Start and type REGEDIT in the Start Search area.
2. Open the Registry Editor.
3. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then SYSTEM
then CurrentControlSet
then Control
then Session Manager
then MemoryManagement
then click PrefetchParameters
4. On the right side, double-click on EnableSuperfetch
5. Give it one of the following hexadecimal values:
0 to disable Superfetch
2 to enable boot prefetching (I recommend this)
Click OK.
6. Close the Registry Editor.

Also download CCleaner to clean out temporary files that are bogging down your system. This should take about 3 minutes.

I also recommend you use Wise PC Engineer and create a System Restore Point as well as a Registry Backup, then use the Disk Cleaner, to do a broader search for useless temporary files and Registry Cleaner to get rid of problems, then the
Registry Defrag to compress your registry and give your system a small boost. This should take about 20 minutes.

Once you have done that, download Defraggler and chose Action>Advanced>Check Drive for Errors let that run, then defrag your Hard Drive to improve disk performance. This can take up to an hour or more.

If you still lag, you may need to tweak your java memory values go to your Control Panel>Programs>Java. This should open the Java Control Panel. Select the Java tab click view, and make sure the Platform is the latest version of Java and in the Runtime Parameters type in -Xmx1512m this will give java permission to use 1.5 GB (or 1512 MB) of your RAM, now click ok. Vista needs 525 MB to keep the system happy so do not exceed your RAM limits. Windows 7 needs 1 GB of RAM to maintain the system and Java limits itself to 1 GB by default so adjust according to how much memory you have.

Also you can launch your MineCraft from a .bat file. Open Notepad type in
@echo off
java -client -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:+UseAdaptiveGCBoundary -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=500 -XX:-UseGCOverheadLimit -XX:SurvivorRatio=12 -Xnoclassgc -XX:UseSSE=3 -Xincgc -XmxINSERT AMMOUNT OF RAM YOU WANT TO BE ALLOCATED HEREM -cp Minecraft.exe net.minecraft.LauncherFrame
exit
Then save it as a .bat instead of a .txt
Simply click the bat file to launch minecraft from now on.

Also right-click your desktop and click Personalize and change your Theme to Windows Classic. If you want to go even further right click My Computer>Properties>Advanced System Settings>Performance Settings Uncheck all but Smooth Screen font and Shadow options.

You can also go to START, type in Run and then dxdiag, click ok. Go to the Display tab and notice the name of the first device. This is your graphics card model. Now go to NVidias Driver Downloads Page if it is an NVidia graphics device or go to AMD's Driver Download Page if it is a Radeon or ATI graphics card and just select the right information or auto detect the hardware and download the software and install it.

Once you are done with all of this restart your computer and you should be running like brand new again.

If none of this helps its simply time to upgrade your computer.

I wouldn't mess with virtual memory settings, let windows do that itself. You could seriously mess things up.

I would say if it should be adjusting for best performance on programs. Other than that there is really no need.

I'm not denying that more virtual memory is a good thing. I'm saying messing with the ratio between your RAM and Hard Drive's Virtual Memory can cause more problems.

There are many other ways to increase performance before having to mess with Virtual Memory- it should be a last resort. Virtual Memory is not real memory- it is unused space on your Hard Drive instead of your RAM. Hence the reason I said to buy more RAM.

If you have to resort to changing your Virtual Memory settings your computer really is on its last leg and you should buy a new one as soon as possible.

I'd like to recommend Newegg, Tiger Direct, CyberPower PC depending on the current market, time of year, and discounts available you can get a good deal most of the time.
Beware the technology is in the process of being updated and new standards are being set so anything with the newest technology is going to be much more expensive.
On the other hand the old technology might not get marked down, so you could really waste your money if you aren't careful.
Here are some tips for Desktops (I DO NOT RECOMMEND LAPTOPS)-
Make sure that the:
Operating System is Windows 7
RAM is no better than DDR3 1333MHz but still DDR3 #### with at least 4 GB
Processor is an AMD (3 core is about avg)
MotherBoard has PCI Express 2.0 and SATA III
Graphics Card RAM is is at least GDDR3 with 1GB of Memory
Make sure that you check competitive options- find out the year it was released and compare dates and prices, usually if its Last Generation Technology (meaning it has been out for a year or two and prices have normalized-thats what you want) it will be cheaper than newer technology and outdated technology. All the companies and manufacturers want to get rid of the last gen tech so they can fill their stock with new things so you can get a much better deal for the money.

Yes, this does speed things up a bit but not worth all the other downsides that come with macs. This is my opinion, not something you can argue over- just setting that straight right now.

Yeah, macs have good features but thats all they are good for-extra features- they are not necessities for me or the average user in my estimation. Proven by the popularity of the PC.

Don't get me wrong Macs have made a lot of advancements in the computer world but the way it is implemented is just poorly done.

As I said, I have tried it and its just not as good.

If you disagree please make your own blog about it, but don't mess up mine.

Most all in 1 programs like ASC are not very good because they are trying to do too much and it ends up lower the quality of the tools. Glary utilities in my opinion is better than ASC as well and I still wouldn't recommend either one.

These are dedicated programs that have been worked on for a long time and tweaked for specific purposes with feedback from users. Before Wise PC Engineer all the features were spread out into separate programs first and now they have put it in a single package. Completely differently than starting with everything at once, its more focused.

Alright, sorry If you don't agree. But I already have made my own blog about this, and people like it too. There's different ways to tweak your pc, but Iobit has been working on the same software since pre xp, and updated it weekly with various tweaks. I don't know which is better, but don't just say stuff just because you want to be right. It really does help, and after downloading and doing all your steps which took longer, my pc needs a restore disk. I respect you and this blog because of the help it has created, or else I wouldn't even be commenting. I just have a different opinion.

I'm not not denying that it works but you are stuck in the same situation as all the people that still use Norton Security- it used to be the best and people use it because of its past reputation instead of realizing there are much better options out there currently even for freeware. When I first used ASC I thought it was great- but after testing it for over a year then trying these other programs it is night and day. ASC is based on old programming and needs to be revamped for the modern pc.

The Advanced Systemcare 5 version is based entirely on windows 7. Face it, you are just lying to me, trying to make this method seem right to the public, instead of actually earning it with valuable information. You clearly have never used it because half the time you don't appear to know what I'm talking about. What part about it being updated WEEKLY even suggests "old programming" and as far as being revamped, their product has done a lot more than your methods. Why manually go through and do all of this where there is clearly room for error when you could just get a program that does all of this and more at once, and has been written and rewritten just for slight improvements? You fail to get your point across. And to impress. So go ahead, write another paragraph explaining why this is clearly better. It'll fall on deaf ears, as my attempts have.

Sorry if I have offended you but as I said I have used it for a long time and don't anymore because I have found better options in my opinion. I will still stick to my point that there are other programs out there that offer more without having to upgrade.
However, they have updated it quite a lot since I last used it- I'll see how much things have improved...

Yes, for a basic user it is a great program because of the convenience of having everything in 1 place. I still recommend it for those users, but for someone a bit more advanced I do not.
I assume because the people here were able to complete the things in my post above that they are an above average user and don't mind having multiple maintenance programs hence the reason for me downing it a bit.

No that is a bad idea.

Read the post.

If you are on Vista you need at least 512 MB to be free from everything else.

On Windows 7 you need 1 GB to be free.
