I have been around Minecraft for several years, though I was not fortunate to have a paid account until about two years ago. I started with Classic during Beta. I still remember the first time that my friend and I went on to a multiplayer server. Since then, almost all I have done has been on multiplayer. I was introduced to a server as I was getting Minecraft and have hung around on there the entire time I have had my account. While I've played a few other servers, I love its community and like staying around there. I'll be honest- while I have meant to use my acounts on various Minecraft community sites to post content and actually be an active member of the community, I only really use them to subscribe to content.
I used to play another game and be very involved in its community. There was a certain group within the community that attempted to 'stomp out' the other groups. Instead of a diverse group of multiple forums, blogs, and wikis, they wanted everything on their site. Due to the way they behaved, many prominent community members left. I joined them in leaving. Not only did we leave the community, but without the community (which we didn't feel welcome in), we didn't enjoy the game anymore and left it, too.
I'm sure most people have heard about Microsoft's purchase of Mojang (]https://mojang.com/2014/09/yes-were-being-bought-by-microsoft/) by now. This could be taken several different ways depending on the perspective of individuals in the community. Speculation that I read on Tumblr coming in general from the Broville community (seriously, check it out) is showing that people are taking a generally bad reaction to it (http://darkfox118.tumblr.com/post/97568665109/microsoft-game-content-usage-rules).
While this, as I said, might not turn out so bad, there is another blow to the community and the entirety of Minecraft multiplayer community, that is revealing itself in a bitter sforzando. While not the entire multiplayer community uses Bukkit, a very massive amout of servers do. It is very likely that you play on a Bukkit server. Apparently, there has been a bit of a battle over the continuation of the project. One of the core developers of Bukkit had been planning to shut down the project, but Mojang stopped him- this was because in hiring several of the core developers, including him, they also acquired Bukkit itself. The association between Mojang and Bukkit was kept in the dark until only recently. Some authors rejected the idea and asked for their source code to be removed, and,  as the GPL and LGPL are somewhat flawed (sorry, GNU and FSF, but it's true), Bukkit may not be able to continue using their code (this paragraph so far has used this (https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/2fkz55/as_one_of_the_original_contributors_to_bukkit/) as a source). This has led some prominent developers are leaving Bukkit and moving over to work on what appears to be a Forge fork and are recommending the use of Forge. This is also leading to the end of WorldEdit support for Bukkit (http://forum.enginehub.org/threads/bukkit-may-cease-to-exist-in-the-future.15684/). As the defacto plugin for build servers, it's looking like they will either not be able to update to new versions of Bukkit (if they come out) or lose a core part of their server. Either way, people are likely to leave.
This is all bad news for Bukkit and the greater Minecraft community. As the external Minecraft community (outside of the game itself) is mostly based on multiplayer, which is mostly based on Bukkit...
I'm not suggesting that people leave the community or that the community can't handle it all this. I'm actually saying quite the opposite. While things don't look good right now, I think we all just need to sit back and see where things take us before considering doing anything like leaving or freaking out and creating more chaos. While it's best to stay informed, try to stay in a calm exteral perspective- look at things like the community I had mentioned earlier. It basically fell apart because one group wanted the control. While that's not entirely what's happening here, the community could definitely fall apart like that if we react the wrong way.

though, this can be a good thing for MC though... new mobs.. new bosses..
who knows.. ? maybe we'll get some mobs that are a send off to other famous games..
or maybe they'll do like they do on MCXBOX and intorduce ...
Themed Texture pack, skin packs... or themed MOD PACKs.
that change the game into something else...

That my be cool :) though.. why pay for a texture pack when you can get them for free. and show love to the community by donoating to suppor there work instead? :)

i agree. Though the winds are changing. it may be for the better.

If the bukkit team decide to use forge. this would work better for people wanting to use mods.
as we could simply add the Mods and Plugins to the folder. thus, makeing updateing easier.

And we wouldnt have to use FORGE for the SP version, and Cauldron, or Spigot, or Canary... or whatever for the Server.  Just port the files right over simple and easy. :) so servers could run better if they do move over to Forge.

Im on the fence about the Microsoft/Mojan deal. I can understand NOTCHS reason for selling.
The stress of running a big company can be a lot. and MOJANG is a samll company, running a MASSIVE project.  They def. need more help. This could introduce great new ideas and blood into the game.
but, at the same time. MICROSOFT wants to make money..
soooo.. this also means we mart start seeing..a shift to MAKE people by the REALMS servers.
and essentially LEGALLY shut down. the MC server industry.. Say good by to 'hosthorde.com" or the other host sites.

This also would mean, the death of Free to play. as server owners .. or microsfot will likely
make you pay a subscription cost to be able to get online to play on ANY MC server.
on top of the server owner likely chargeing a fee to help him maintain his server so you can join it.

i fear for the greedy tactics the Microsoft will likely try to sneak into the community now.

Hm, I don't really see what this has to do with the community.

What I'm trying to say is that as a community, we need to try and sit back and let things play out and not blow things out of proportion so that they dont' affect us as negatively as they could.
