Hello Planet Minecraft community! How's your day been going? I've been doing well. Anyways, lets get to the point about this "Rant"

                    DONATING
Before you go rambo on me saying "DONATIONS ARE VITAL TO KEEP SERVERS GOING!!!!" Just hear me out, ok? Guess what? Some servers don't even NEED donations to keep going! The're just being big money hogs! Anyways, when you go on a minecraft server and see "Donate to keep the server going!" if you "Donate" to the server YOU ARE NOT DONATING TO IT YOU ARE BUYING. Buying and donating are two VERY different things. If you donate you are giving someone money without getting anything in return. Buying, on the other hand, is purchasing an item with money. So about %99.1 of the servers you go on, you are BUYING items when you "Donate" such as perks or diamond armor. Besides, most servers care about our wallets more then us! So think before you go on a minecraft spending spree "Should I buy? Or Should I not buy?"

My Experience with this:
  1. Owner of a clan.
  2. Owner of servers in 4 games.
  3. Been doing it since 08
By definition, when you donate. You are Donating. You don't say "I am gonna swim" and then light yourself on fire.

Donating: Hey they Mr server man, i'd love to help you out. Heres $5.
Buying: I will buy the diamond sword for $1

If the server owner decides to reward Donators In-Game, fine. It's still a donation.

Server startup, 100% out of pocket. You have to make that money back through donations. Or just keep paying next months bill. My servers are not too populated lately, but luckily I made excess money in years before, and that is why all my servers are still available. Donations. Forgot where I was going with that. hmm....

You have absolutely no idea how servers work. Some big-name servers, like Hypixel's, ItsJerryAndHarry's and the Hive Server are mostly funded through just donations. If you donate to the server, most of the time, you also get a perk for funding the server. It's the server's way of saying "Thank you".

"Buying and donating are two VERY different things..."
Yes, most people do buy ranks just for the perks, but they do so because they like the server and want it to stay up. Not just because they hate everyone else that can't donate.

"...most servers care about our wallets more than us!..."
Most servers care about everyone that plays on them. The admins want to provide an entertaining experience to the players that play on the server. However, if they want to create a serious, powerful, 24/7 server, they can't fund it by themselves, so they set up a donation system for anyone that wishes to donate to the server, while getting cool perks.

It seems like you're just fed up with people with donation perks being more overpowering instead of the actual servers.

They use the word "donate" to avoid paying taxes on the income. They are simply "rewarding" donators. I believe you should research before you post. I have run a server for over 4 years and I get tired of it sometimes. I actually never pocket any donations to my server as they are solely for upkeep. Your blog is bias and uninformed. Also donating works as incentive for owners to keep their server going because it shows that their players actually care. What you should really rant about is that some servers give away moderator, administrator, or even op status for "donating." I'm not trying to be rude, so keep up the blogging! ^-^

A few things you're not considering. 1. They may be "buying" the server for you, but are they moderating it, are they putting up with douche bags that are ignorant of the rules etc. 2. Most servers have had a lot of work put into it, they've donated a lot of time and maybe they want a reward, which they're entitled to. Donating isn't always for keeping the server going, it's upgrading, it can be insentive for the owner to take better care of the server.
