Welcome to Minetorial! This book will guide you through your Minecraft Survival experience with directions, tips , and recipes!

A couple pointers:

1: use default texture pack for this tutorial.

2: Difficulty should be at normal; cheats off on world; bonus chest off.

3: default world type

Day 1: First Day

As this is your first Minecraft day you will only want to find some basic materials. To start off, follow this checklist:
  • Find a tree, look at it from close up, and left click to punch it. Hold down left click until you get a log.
  • Press E to open the inventory, find the 4x4 grid crafting area, and place your log inside one of the squares; you now have your planks!
  • Next, put 1 of the 4 planks in each square in the crafting area to make your crafting table.
  • You will need more wood, so repeat step 1 until you have cut down 2 whole trees.
  • Place the crafting table down, right click it to open it, then make planks as in step 2. Then, you are going to put 1 plank in the middle, and the other below it to make sticks. Finally, put 1 stick in the middle, 1 below it, then 3 wooden planks in each of the squares of the top row. you now have your pickaxe! Like this:

Ready to move on? If so, follow these directions:
  1.  Without your pickaxe in your hand, punch dirt in a diagonal path downwards until you see stone then, switch to your pick and mine stone( and only stone, as iron will just break when mined with wooden pick or hand.). WARNING: NEVER DIG STRAIGHT DOWN!!!
  2. Once you have eight cobblestone, get back to your crafting table, and put 1 cobblestone in each of the squares except for the very middle square. This will make you a furnace. Next, go down your mine and get some more stone, then pop back over to the crafting table, and use the pickaxe recipe, but instead of wood, put 1 cobblestone in each of the top squares. The result is this:

  1. Now, break your crafting table and go into your mine, sealing the way in, as night is definitely soon.

Day 2: House and (hopefully)iron

Hello, today we will be going over building a simple shelter and finding some iron and crafting iron utilities. The goals for day 2 are:
  1. To make iron armor set
  2. To make iron sword, pick, and shovel
  3. To build a house where setting your spawn is possible

We shall start by building a big house. So get at least 64 planks, and build a line of wooden planks at least 8 long. Then, continue building from the corner you finished at 8 blocks out. Repeat this until all corners are connected, then make 5 block high walls. For the roof, head over to your crafting table and fill the squares with 5 wooden planks all except for the 3 in the upper right as shown below:

Now place one stairs on each top block of wood. If you did not make enough, go and make more until the tops of the top planks are covered with a stair block. Next place 1 cobblestone in front of each stair(just right click  on the back of the stair), then place stairs on those, and repeat this process until your roof is done. Now, go back to your mine and mine until you see a whitish ore : thats iron!(Hint: No need to continue digging down, try to the sides) Once you have found at least 29 iron, head up to your newly built house and place your crafting table and furnace. First, place the iron in the top slot of the furnace, and some coal in the bottom slot. If you don’t have coal, go mine for it! Once the iron is smelted into ingots, take them all and head to the crafting table. To make your iron pick, use the pickaxe recipe replacing cobblestone with iron ingots, like so:

Now, you need to make an iron sword, so put 1 stick in the bottom middle of the crafting table, and 2 iron ingots in the middle and top middle, as below:

Now, to make your iron armour, follow the recipes below:

and that is all for day 2.

Day 3: Bed,XP, and caves

Our goals for today are:

1: To make a bed

2: To get a lot of Experience points

3: To find and explore a cave

4: Learn how to use F3

To start off, you will need to find some sheep. If you want, you can get 2 more iron and make some shears. Open your inventory, then put 1 iron ingot in 2 of the corners,

in a diagonal shape, like this:

Once you have found sheep, right-click them with the shears to get wool. Collect as much as you want. The green bar below your health and hunger is your experience bar, which we will go over later. Go to your crafting table in your house, and put 3 wool in each square of the middle row, and 3 wood planks in each of the squares of the bottom row to make a bed! Recipe shown here:

Now, place it in the center of the wall of your house. Next, wait night arrives, but do not sleep, instead go outside to try and kill mobs such as: Creepers,SKeletons,Zombies, and Spiders. Before you do, though, press the F3 key on your keyboard. If you only see Chunk Relative, click open to LAN and turn on cheats and type /gamerule reduceddebuginfo false to correct that. Next, hit Save and Quit to exit LAN and remove cheats, then go back into the world. Now, you should see something like this: X/Y/Z: 100/64/100 (May not be the numbers you see, but its just an example) remember the numbers you see on your screen if you die, as with the, you will be able to find your lost items! They are known as coordinates. Now, the whole point of survival is to adventure, right? So go to your mine, and dig until you find a cave.( WARNING: there may be a lot of monsters down there.) There are quite a few possibilities for the interior of a cave, listed below:
  1. A small cave with nothing inside it
  2. A ravine with lava or water at the bottom, and maybe a mineshaft
  3. A ravine with no liquid at the bottom
  4. A cave that connects to a mineshaft
  5. A cave/ravine with a stronghold inside
  6. A seemingly never - ending cave

Or Finally:

    7. A lava pool inside a tiny opening

Those are just a few possibilities for caves. Number 7 is the most dangerous one, as, well, its lava! If you find numbers 4,5, or 6, you are in for a great time. Remember to keep the F3 coordinates up in case you die. There can either be tons of ores in a cave, or even - a dungeon with a mob spawner! Now, to deal with these, make sure you have sword at hand, and torches ready as soon as the area is clear. Place 1 torch on each side of the spawn: left, right, front, back, and top to neutralize it so no more mobs come out of it. One thing to remember is: Do not break the spawner. You can mine out the blocks of the dungeon(cobblestone and mossy cobblestone) and take whats in the chest and the chest, if there is one.Your inventory may be almost full, so grab what ores you can, then head back up.( don’t go lower than Y:20 coordinates, as that is for tomorrow) and sleep in your bed. Thats all for Day 3.

Day 4: Diamond search

Today, we shall be looking for the most important resource in all of Minecraft: diamonds. They can be used to make armor, weapons, and tools, and the items they create are very durable. A little tip: go down to Y:12, as that is a good way to safely find diamonds. To know what they look like, they are a teal coloured ore, like so:

If you are very, very, very lucky, you may find a square room in the middle of your mine with walls of diamonds! It can contain 49 diamonds  or more/less! They are called connected patches, and are a very rare thing in minecraft. By the way, if you die in lava, most of your stuff(if not all) will be destroyed, so when you are a block above lava, hold the left shift to so you don’t fall.WHen you have 29 diamonds, head to your crafting table and make an armor set, using the same recipes as for iron armor, but replace iron with diamond. THen, using the pickaxe and sword recipes, use your last remaining diamonds to make a diamond sword and pick. That is all for today.

Day 5: Making your house nicer.

We have just been using the house as a base, but now its time to make it more like a house! TO start off, go and find some more sheep to shear, collecting at least 10 wool, and collect a lot of wood too. Now, go to your crafting table, and craft some sticks, then fill the whole crafting area except for the middle with 10 sticks per square, and then fill the middle with 10 wool and you get 10 paintings! Now, right click on the wall with a painting in your hand to place it. You may break the paintings and place them again until you have the ones you want. Now, the next step to furnishing your house is a bit complicated, so we will go over it tomorrow. For now, just find a beach or desert, and use an iron shovel to get some 64 sand, then put it in your furnace to get some glass.

Now its time to decide: do you want to keep it as glass blocks or make glass panes? If you want to make panes, you will need to fill the bottom 2 rows of squares in the crafting table with 4 glass blocks, leaving the top row empty. This will give you 64 glass panes. To make your windows, simply replace wood blocks with glass panes. Make sure to put them in a place where you can look through them! If you have done those tasks, thats all for today.

Day 6: Nether and clay

Today is a big leap forward, and a test of your skills, as w shall be going to the Nether today. To get there, you will first need to find Obsidian, which looks like this:

It can only be mined by a diamond pick(without mods)so bring your diamond pick to a ravine that was both water and lava inside. Stop the water flow by placing blocks in front of it 5 blocks away from the lava. There should be obsidian but DON’T MINE IT YET! There will probably be lava underneath, so dig down 2 blocks next to the obsidian and block out the lava as you mine. WHen you have 10 blocks of obsidian, go back to the surface and start building your portal! Put 2 blocks on the ground in a line, then put 2 cobblestone blocks next to them as corners, then on top of the cobblestone blocks put 3 obsidian on each side. Put a cobblestone block on top of each pillar of obsidian, then connect the top corners with obsidian. Now you will need a flint and steel, so if you haven’t any flint, you will need to break and place gravel until you get some.

No put the flint and an iron ingot next to each other in the crafting table to make your flint and steel. Right click on of the bottom obsidian blocks to light the Nether portal. It will light up with a purple portal block inside go into the portal for a couple of seconds to go into the nether. Now, the things you are looking for are: everything possible to find in the Nether. For now, look for glowstone which looks like this:

Once you have at least 64 dust, start searching for quartz, which is netherrack covered in white, like this:

Gather 2 stacks of quartz, then go home, open your inventory, and put  16 dust in each of the squares of your inventory’s crafting area. This will give you 16 glowstone blocks. Now, make a cross of glowstone blocks 3 blocks above your head to make the light source for your house! Now, put  32 nether quartz in each of the squares of your inventory’s crafting area to get 32 quartz blocks. Then, put 16 blocks in 2 of the squares of your crafter in the inventory not facing sideways, but up to get some  quartz pillar blocks. Now, go to the corners of your house and place a pillar of quartz pillar blocks until it reaches the top of your house. Your house is almost fully decorated! It should look like this:

(default texture pack remember. Also paintings may vary depending on which you chose.). Now, we are going to find some clay, which is underwater, so look at the bottoms of some lakes until you see a gray-bluish block that looks like this:

Now, use a shovel to get all the clay you can find. A good idea to not get lost is to use the F3 coordinates if you haven’t been already. Now, go to the furnace and smelt all the clay into brick, then go to the crafting table and place the brick in a V-shape, like this(at least 4 in each square):

That will make flower pots! Now, find some flowers that you fancy, and place the pots wherever you like, then simply right click them with the flowers you want to put them in! The house should now look something like this. Remember; paintings will probably be different, as you choose yours, and I choose mine:

If you don’t want to furnish your house some more, go into the Nether and build a cobblestone shelter around your portal so Ghasts don’t lock you in there. That is all for today bye.

Day 7: Nether fortress

Today is the big day for you to show off your skills, as a Nether fortress is one of the most dangerous, but important, things in the game. If we could, we’d make a brewing stand for fire resistance potions, but you need to go to a fortress first! So pop into the nether, and walk around until you see a block like this:

but dont attack pigmen(shown below):

When you see the block shown above, known as Nether Brick, you have found a fortress! If you see big orange heads with yellow-brown sticks flying around them, like this:

You have found what you came for! Kill as many of them as you can to get Blaze Rods, which is what you need! If you see a black skeleton with a sword, do your best to either run/kill it. When they hit you, they give you an effect called Wither, which causes you to lose health, but also makes you unable to see your health. Now, if you want, mine out some of the Nether Brick from the fortress, then head back home. Also, near any staircases that are made of stairs, look for Nether wart,(and collect it, its important) which looks like this:

Now we can get to doing some exciting stuff, so grab 3 cobblestone, and head over to the crafting table. Put 1 cobblestone in each of the squares of the bottom row, then put 1 blaze rod in the middle to make your brewing stand! The recipe:

Now, you are going to need to get a gold ingot if you have any(if not go mine for some gold ore, then smelt it) then put it in the crafting table to turn it into gold nuggets. Next, you will need a melon, which isn’t that easy to find. If the cave/ravine you found has a mineshaft, and you got melon seeds from it, plant them and wait until the melons grow. Meanwhile, break some tall grass to get some wheat seeds and grow those by making a hoe, which looks like this:

(make the hoe before planting melons, planting beforehand won't work) and right click grass blocks to hoe them. Next, you will need to make a bucket, so get 3 iron ingots, and use the flower pot recipe replacing brick with iron ingots. GO find some water and fill your bucket. Next, make a hole in the land you hoed and put the water in there by right clicking with the water bucket. NOw plant your melons and wheat. TIp about melons: they need a block of hoed land in front of them to grow.

Once your melons and wheat have grown head to the crafting table. Make some bread by putting as much wheat as possible in each of the squares of the bottom row. You will probably be almost dead via starvation, so eat the bread you just made. Now, take 1 melo and surround it with gold nuggets in the crafting table, like this:

Now, make some glass bottles by using the bucket recipe but using glass instead of iron. Go fill the 3 water bottles with water and right click the brewing stand and put them in. Put a nether wart in the top slot and wait until its brewed in. Then, put in the glistering melon and wait until thats done, then put 1 glowstone dust in, and when thats done, you have 3 Potions of Healing II!

IF you want, you can do the process again, but keep the blaze rods safe, and get at least 2 more.

Day 8: Ender-hunt , enchanting, and stronghold!

TO start off today, you will need to get 4 more obsidian, 2 diamonds, and a book.To make a book, you will need sugar cane, so look around until you see a bamboo like plant, and bring it back home. Put 3 sugar cane in the bottom row of the crafting table to make paper. Now, you will need leather, so find some cows and kill them until you get 1 leather.(Collect the steaks too, and put them in your furnace) Now, put the 3 paper in the lower left corner and 1 leather next to it, like this:

Now, to make the enchanting table, you will need to follow this recipe:

Time to hunt some endermen! Endermen look like this:

and aren’t easy to beat. They can teleport and hit pretty hard. You want at least 21 ender pearls. Once you have killed enough endermen to get 21 ender pearls,go back to your house ASAP.This is it! Put the blaze rods in 1 square of the crafting table to collect blaze powder. Then, put the blaze powder and ender pearls next to each other in the crafting table to make Eyes Of Ender! Now, put on your diamond armor, take your diamond tools, a lot of torches, a lot of food, a bed, and the eyes of ender. Before you leave, make 16 bookshelves, with this recipe:

Now, place them 1 block away from your enchanting table, making a “Library Corner”, like this:

Time to enchant! If you have a lot of levels, say 60, you are ready! Get some lapis and put it all in the enchantment table. Next, put your sword in the slot, then take it out and put it back in as many times as you like, then right click the level 30 enchantment on the bottom of the list, then take your sword out. Do the same for your pickaxe and armor, until they are all enchanted. It is time to leave, so sleep if its night, then take your bed and go outside. \Right click with an eye of ender in your hand to throw it, then watch where it goes and try to get it back if it didn’t disappear. When you arrive at the place it fell/disappeared, walk out for 20 blocks, then throw 1 again. Repeat this until it goes backwards. If it goes backwards then down, just dig there; you have found the Stronghold! Now, walk around the stronghold placing torches and look for a portal, which looks like this:

Now, place 1 eye of ender on each piece of portal to generate the actual portal part! DO not jump straight in. Store you best stuff  in a chest here by going out and getting the wood, then press F3 for coordinates, then press write down the coordinates on a piece of paper. Put the paper somewhere where it won’t get lost, as those coordinates are very important.

Day 9 : The End - Boss fight #1

Remember how you had F3 coordinates open? If you had them open inside your house and saved the coordinates, you should be able to return home. When you are home, get a ton, and I mean a ton, of ladders, snowballs, cobblestone, and your bow and arrows. Don’t forget to enchant the bow! Now, go to the stronghold, get to the portal, and - jump in! IF you are lucky, you will spawn underground, safe from the Ender Dragon. If you’re unlucky, you will spawn on a floating obsidian platform. If you are on the underground platform, simply dig up. IF you are on the floating platform; BUILD A BRIDGE ASAP! Otherwise, you will be knocked into the Void by the Ender Dragon. If you die in the void, you have to recreate all your stuff, get all those levels back, and enchant everything again! Unlucky event after death: You respawn in house; Creeper blows up you, your bed, and your chest. If a creeper spawns as you respawn, press ESC to pause the game. Now, take a moment to think of how you are going to do this: Either you just resume the game, and redo everything/end up with an inventory full of your random stuff in the chest, OR you set the Difficulty to Peaceful. Hard Way Out or Easy Way Out ? Just a little tip from me:) If you didn’t die yet however, look up at the obsidian towers. See those purple Crystals? Either make a bridge up to them, use your ladders, or shoot at them. MEanwhile, use your snowballs to fight the Ender Dragon, as shooting it while there’s even ONE Ender Crystal left will be pointless, as the crystals heal it(also watch out for the insane amount of endermen). Once you have destroyed all the crystals, you can begin attacking the Ender Dragon with your bow and sword. Just keep your eyes away from the endermen! Once the Ender Dragon is dead, it will explode in a huge detonation of XP, and will spawn a portal that will take you to the Overworld and your spawnpoint! When you enter the portal, there is a around 15 minute long little script before the staff credits. To skip all this(recommended, as its around half an hour long), simply press ESC.If you didn’t set your spawn to the stronghold with your bed, you will appear in your house!

Congrats! You just beat the first boss in Minecraft!

Day 10: Further exploration + Wither skulls

If you’d like, you can explore the stronghold further, which is sure to be fun as they always contain at last 3 chests, plus a library that can be wrecked anytime. They are usually connected to a cave or ravine, so explore the whole thing before giving up and saying:”This is useless!” Also, take a piston with you, a stack of  blocks, and a lever. NOw, go into the End again. Go along your bridge, and go up to the portal that takes you back, but dont go in. Instead, cover the portal up with blocks, and do not touch the purple thing on top of the portal, that is a Dragon Egg and can only be obtained by Killing the ender Dragon. After the portal is covered up, get to the level of the Egg, and place your piston so the wooden/iron looking part is facing the egg. PLace the lever behind, it, pull the lever, and collect the egg! Warning: clicking the egg at any time will teleport it to a random location, so seal it in a safe place after placing it!

Now, it is time for another adventure, so head back to that Nether fortress you found. This time, you WANT the Wither skeletons, so spend a few hours(or minutes, if you are lucky) farming them until you have collected 3 Wither Skulls. Tomorrow, we shall fight Boss #2!

Day 11: The Wither - Boss #2

Now, it is time for the fight against the Wither! So, go into theNether, with your best gear and weapons of course, and collect 4 Soul Sand from the Nether, which looks like this:

Next, get into the End. Now, place the Soul sand as follows:

1: Place 1 soul sand on the ground

2: Put another soul sand on top of that, then put  the rest on the sides of the top block.

3: Put your 3 Wither Skulls on the tops of the top 3 Soul sand.

Now, stand back, way back, as it show make a huge explosion as it spawns! When it starts throwing explosive Wither Skulls,it will either target you or the Endermen. It it attacks the Endermen, you are going to find yourself in an easier position than if it attacked you first, Shoot your arrows at it, then when it goes lower to the ground =, charge at it with your sword. If it hits you, run away to a safe place. Then, go right back to battle as soon as you aren’t affected with Wither. Eventually, after this game of hit and run, it will die!(Hint: When its low to the ground, the Endermen will most likely attack it, making it much easier.) When it dies, collect the Nether star and Xp it drops. At this point, you have basically beaten Minecraft!

Day 12: Beacon and Temple hunt.

The first thing to do today requires you to have been able to not lose your Nether star. If you lost it, repeat Day 11 and then get to your house. NExt, you will need the Nether star, 3 obsidian, and 5 glass. In the crafting table, place the star in the middle, 3 obsidian on the bottom row, and 1 glass in each of the remaining squares; you now have a Beacon! Now, you will need a ton of iron, so make 9 iron blocks by putting 9 iron ingots in each of the crafting table squares. NExt, place all the iron blocks in a square, like this:

And place the beacon in the middle. It should send a beam of light up into the air, indicating  that its working! Now, you can put an iron ingot into the slot in the beacon and press the checkmark to get boosts such as haste each time you are near the beacon! Now, of course that isn’t all for today! So, get your best armour, and a bow and sword(don’t need to be your best ones) and some food and torches, of course. Now, go out and look for a desert biome. Then, explore the WHOLE BIOME until you find a pyramid type structure. Go inside it. If you see a bunch of houses and a farm, you are also in luck, as you have found a village! Explore the village/pyramid(called Desert temple) until you have collected everything useful inside. Then head back home. The rest to do in this world is up to you! In the next volume, we will be going hardcore by playing hardcore mode!
