These were the mobs created by "Dock", an artist who worked with Notch on the making of Minecraft.
When he left the mobs were removed from the game. Perhaps they were removed because they were not
yet finished: Rana was the first .MD3 mob, she used colour samples, not actual textures, then when the Steve model came in, it used 128x128px textures (3 textures actually, one for each character). The mobs were still not moving, they would have probably added animation to the models and made new ones (since these were tests) that would have been todays mobs.
