EDIT2!: Assymetrical skins are confirmed (sorry if it came too late)!
EDIT!: if the picture does not show for you, then come to my page to see it.
Note!: this is not for a contest, it was just an idea I had when I was making a skin.
Introduction
Have you ever wished to create a Blob-like being or a soldier who had a machine gun for one of his arms? I bet we've had that idea run through our head at one time or another and wanted to make that awe-inspiring dream a reality...only to be stopped by the frustration of symmetrical arms and legs or a square head. However, what are these two things that some of us skinners so longingly want? With this in mind, I will clarify on two of the ideas that could open up doors for more opportunities for more creations requiring skin shaping and asymmetrical skins.
Origin of an Idea
The origin of this idea came from when I was working on one of my skins, the Plasm Wraith (from Pikmin 3, mind you) and you need to know something about me, I am a stickler for detail and accuracy. To clarify, if you give me picture and say to recreate it as x, then I will try as hard as I can to at least get it right (not exact, but somewhat accurate). However, when I was trying to create the arms (Which are asymmetrical) then I knew I had to cut corners to make it as a skin, and then it hit me "it would be really cool if I could shape the skin to make it look like the Plasm Wraith". With this, it began to take shape, and now I impart these ideas from me to you.
The First Idea: Asymmetrical Skins
The idea of asymmetrical skins (or asymmetrical anything) are pretty self-explanatory-- you make one side that looks mirrored to its counterpart look different from said thing. In addition, this is the problem when you want to make an asymmetrical-demanding skin (soldier with machine gun arm anyone?): you make something that needs an arm (or leg) that is different from the other arm and you can because it uses one arm texture for that piece in conclusion, leading you to cut corners and create something you did not intend to create in the first place.
The Second Idea: Skin Shaping
My second idea is based upon skin shaping, now you are wondering, what is this? Well, I will give you an example: say you have a figure in your hands that looks exactly like your skin (teen skin, rebel skin, whatever...) and you say to yourself "hmm, I wish I could make the hair more realistic" then you could shape the skin and give a more wavy look, this is what skin shaping is--the ability to shape the skin and give it more vibrancy. Another example is the Luna statue that was shown; you could shape a skin that looked like Luna into a smaller, more movable version of that statue, or a blob-like creature--you could shape his/her body to give him more of a spineless look to him/her (almost like water or jelly).
Conclusion
In conclusion, these two ideas are fascinating if you look at them through a skinner's eyes because they can open doors to new and interesting skins. In addition, it can open up a lot more creative opportunities for skinners and add more options for those looking for skins. However, all that matters is that as long as there are creative people out there making more art, then we will always have ideas.
