NOTICE: THESE ARE MY OPINIONS. I'M NOT EXPECTING EVERYONE TO AGREE WITH ME ON SOME OF THE THINGS I'VE WRITTEN. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF WINDOWS, THEN PLEASE LEAVE NOW, AS I SAY SOME THINGS THAT MAY OFFEND YOU. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Oi, everyone! It's me, Ocean, and I'm back with day two of my birthday countdown, starting with a new Blog post!
Today's topic: Microsoft and Mojang: The End of Minecraft?
Now, first off, I should let you all know about how my family is in the computer world. My family is strictly Macintosh (Apple, for those who know them by that name), and we despise Windows and Microsoft with the most utmost hatred that there is (sorta like that hatred that most of the Star Wars fans have towards Jar Jar Binks). If you are a Microsoft fanboy, you had better not comment talking about the "PC Master Race", because those comments will immediately be deleted, as this post is not meant for flame wars or anything of the sort. Go outside and do that, if it really bothers you.
Now that we've gotten that taken care of, let's begin with a little backstory, shall we? So what Mojang did is sell out to Microsoft. Microsoft wanted to make Minecraft an Xbox Exclusive, and didn't even stop to realize that it's already on every other platform: Mobile (iPhone, iPod Touch, Galaxy, etc.), Console (Xbox 360, Xbox One (ew), Playstation), and Computer (Mac and PC).
So why did Mojang sell out to them?
Well, believe it or not, Mojang didn't just take the money because they like to tick off the players even more, what with all the crybabying over the new EULA, Realms, and Bukkit. No, they were actually sick of Minecraft being so popular.
(insert collective gasp here)
Yeah, they were tired of us, believe it or not. Notch himself said he never wanted Minecraft to get this big, and that if he made another game that got this popular, he'd abandon that one, too. I'm not surprised, though, because with the amount of hate that they've been getting for changing their game so things like the new EULA wouldn't happen again, I would probably quit, too.
While I think it's good that Minecraft is in the hands of Microsoft, I don't think we should be celebrating, those of you who think this is a good thing mainly because you like Microsoft. A good portion of this community we're all part of contibuted to the hate that Mojang received from their choices, and we should be ashamed that it has come to Mojang having to give away their hard work, just because they got so much hate from their desicions of the new EULA, their lawsuit with Bukkit, and the creation of Minecraft Realms. We were the ones that brought this on ourselves, creating a hatred for the company that we all knew and loved, that created the game we love, and look at what we've done. We've killed a great company, which gave us everything we wanted. Only mere days after the release of 1.8, and we were still being whiny crybabies about the EULA and Bukkit.
It's a game, people. Welcome to life, please take a number. Crazy stuff happens, deal with it. You all realize that they're not going to buy Minecraft back, especially from Microsoft, one of the most power-hungry companies that's ruined tons of great software, right? All because of us. The players, the ones who were too obsessed with our flashy donor perks, Notch Apples, and power over the "lesser" players. I hope we've found satisfaction in this, because I'm disgusted by it, to be quite honest.
Please leave a Diamond or a Favorite if you agree with me on this subject, and please share with your friends!
And as always,
Peace, love, and tridents!
