Hi guys since 1.4 is soon when the mods come out noobs will not now what to do since moding for alpha is what I know set back and relaxz! :D

First download the mod make sure that it is the one for your Minecraft like if you have 1.2.5 download a mod like Too Many Items Mod 1.2.5 also your have to have WinRAR or 7.zip (WinRAR is best for modding can be found on the shof32.com site. Next to the start button and R at the same time. Then type %appdata, .Minecraft ,BIn and find Minecraft thats the jar so open it with WinRAR or 7.zip and open the mod you downloaded with it to. Put all the files (not to ... file but all the ohter stuff) and cole all files and play Minecraft!
