Should there be more mobs in minecraft?

The idea for this blog was randomly sparked when I was looking over the mods I used to use (namely, Mo' Creatures). Just by the way, my pun in the title, was intentional. I did say neigh instead of nay, yes like a horse... It isn't fun when I have to explain it... Congratulations though if you got it :)

So, I began thinking about the use - or rather, the potential overuse - of mobs. When I was younger, as most kids do, I thought that more animals could only mean more exciting game playing. Now though, I'm not so sure.

To be honest, I believe that too many mobs will make minecraft less enjoyable rather than more. Yes I agree that there are a few that would be cool, or potentially a few updates to already existing mobs but I think that to some extent, many things are better off as just mods or plugins. That way it allows users to choose what they would like to use and doesn't make things worse for some. Just another quick point, I have absolutely nothing against Mo' Creatures - I still think it is a great idea, an awesome design and lots of fun. Nevertheless, it just isn't something I use anymore or have a need for.

Quite frankly, I am one of those that would prefer less mobs not an over abundance of them. Except maybe some kind of tree animal (monkey?). Although I do see a problem here with the trend of newer mobs. I think some of the creativity is lost when mobs are created based on already existing animals. Think about it, minecraft is famous for creepers, skeletons and spider jockeys, not bats. Pigs, cows and sheep are pretty typical, but mostly because they are simple, and laughable (hem pigs hem), not to mention the amount of wool a sheep can produce. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against bats, I just see them as a step in what is possibly the wrong direction. I see them as rather unimportant and once the novelty of spawning hundreds of them at a time wears off, they became useless. So maybe a new climbing creature would be fun, not necessarily a monkey or a lemur, but something new and exciting :D

Ok, so let me pose this question - What is the purpose of mobs? Think about it, every mob in minecraft has a purpose and can do something for you, or alternatively can kill you... Either way, there is a reason for their existence. As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, for many reasons bats are not really all that useful or important.

My Proof to Support This

Spoiler

Passive Mobs

Chicken o Drop feathers and lay eggs. Drops chicken when killed.

Cow o Drop leather when killed and can be milked.

Sheep o Possibly the most useful passive mob because wool is a very important resource if you areno t playing on a raiding server or in a place where it could be burnt.

Pig o Drop pork when killed. Funniest mobs evero ¦.

Squid o Drop ink sacs. Not very useful but they are also rather entertaining.

Villager o Trading. Enough said.

Tamed Wolf o Protects you and helps you fight.

Mooshroom o A cow that also provides mushrooms.

Ocelot o Not as useful as other mobs but can help you trap or fight creepers.

Bat o No purpose other than to o squeako and potentially help you locate caves.

All hostile mobs, neutral mobs and bosses obviously have their purposes, to fight you and then drop items when you kill them.So when comparing bats to other mobs, they really are not all that useful. Other mobs all have something they can do that will help you in some way. Ocelots are not as o well-usedo as some other mobs, but they still have a reason to exist.

Basically, I reckon that a few more could be added, but too many with no settings to remove them, could just clutter the game for those that don't want clutter.

P.S. I will be adding more later on!

Haha punpunpunpunpunpun. I agree that Minecraft should limit the mobs they put in-game. All I really look for in a mob is it's purpose, like if it drops resources that can be used for crafting- something helpful and useful. ...Bats kinda annoyed me when they first came out ouo

This was extremely well written! I enjoyed reading ^-^ <3

Thanks :) Yeah, witches and bats were just a little bit too much, but lets just hope they find a use for them rather than introducing new mobs.
