Hello everyone, AnimeFanFTW here, and yeah. This announcement. Wow.

So, in 2016, Nintendo will release a new Pokemon game on mobile devices called Pokemon Go, where you can capture Pokemon from real world places, and battle and trade.

This announcement came completely out of nowhere. And this is something Nintendo have never done before. To see Nintendo embrace coming out of their comfort zone could produce amazing games. I mean after all, this will be Nintendo's first ever mobile game.

Now, personally, I am super hyped, but I can't help but feel worried. Let me explain.

Judging from the trailer, in terms of capturing Pokemon, of course, the way it happened in the trailer will never happen. So I'm worried about how they will go about doing that aspect of the game. In terms of the battles, I'm a bit worried, with things like if it needs a constant internet connection, or just a signal from other phones, but I think they will make the battle system good enough. If they make the battle system the same as the mainstream Pokemon games, they should have no problems. The trading is simple enough, and I have a hunch that they'll nail the trading part. The thing I'm super hyped for is the part in the trailer that showed Mewtwo: Raids. Events where rare Pokemon will appear, and groups of people can battle this rare Pokemon at once. I think this could be an excellent idea, because meeting fellow Pokemon fans, helping them out, and discussing Pokemon could be really fun.

Other things to consider is that this WILL be a mobile game. And mobile games are infamous for micro-transactions. If this game has micro-transactions, for stuff like Pokeballs, I can see this game failing. The last thing Nintendo need to do is make Pokemon fans angry.

Another thing is that it comes with this wristband thingy, that helps you locate Pokemon, by vibrating. Although the design looks a bit dumb to me, I like the idea.

Another thing I'm worried about is how popular it will be in the West. I have no doubt that this will be crazy popular in Japan, but much like the 3DS StreetPass, there is a good chance that this won't do as well outside of Japan. Of course, many elite Pokemon fans will download this game as soon as possible, but 2 questions arise: Will this game be popular to the Western public, and if so, will it maintain it? Think about it.

What makes Pokemon fun to play? Personally for me, it's the sense of adventure, walking through this amazing world, finding items, rare Pokemon, battling trainers, and just generally exploring. But this game seems it is only focused on the battling/capturing. Now don't get me wrong, battling/capturing is really fun, but that alone doesn't make a amazing Pokemon game. Sure, there are games, like Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 for the N64, that focus on nothing but battling, that are generally fun, but the Pokemon games that everyone continues to talk about are the main series, the ones where you can explore. You will probably not get the same sense of exploration, if the game is telling you to walk down the street, just to find a Pidgey on your phone screen.

Obviously, I could just eat these words when I play the game next year, and it turns out to be amazing, but hey, we will find out soon enough. I will give props to Nintendo for nailing the trailer though, because it really has that sense of wanting to give the fans of Pokemon what they want: Pokemon in real life. However, I do think the trailer kinda overhypes itself. Again, the whole scene with the Pokemon coming out of real life objects/places kinda misinforms the people viewing it. The trailer tells us nothing about how the game plays, so we are kinda in the dark about it. For now...

So yeah. This game is set to be released sometime in 2016, and it has been confirmed to be a free downloadable game, and will be available on iPhone/Android phones. So set those calanders, and prepare to wait. You know I'll wait. At least Rocket League can keep me company.

So, that was my opinons on what I think of the trailer. I'd like to hear what you think. :D

Until the next blog...

in-game purchases have been confirmed, just not what on! I recon it'll be like street pass with coins, you walk a certain amount with your phone and get a small amount of coins a day, or you can take the easy way out and buy a pokeball in a day rather then saving coins for a week.

I'm fine with it having microtransactions. But ONLY if it does have a StreetPass-like system, so you can earn money.
If it doesn't, this game will be a dud.
