This was fun to write

Narrator 1:
It was a dark and stormy night. The full moon crested atop the barren tree branches as the wolves howled in the dist—

Narrator 2:
NO, no, nooo. What is this? This is awful. Who gave you that script?
*ehem*
It was actually not a dark and stormy night, because that is just generic and boring. No, it was actually a bright, cloudless, afternoon…

Narrator 1:
What- y’know what? Fine. We’ll have it your way. I’m going to go make coffee, and there better be some drama happening when I get back.
*dramatically leaves the post to fetch his beloved coffee* as Narrator 2 replaces him and actually begins the story.

———

Whisper stood under a massive oak alone outside a massive estate. The Manor. The day was pleasantly warm and the sun had just begun to set. She pulled her phone out and scrolled through her messages. Her finger hovered over one that displayed the meeting time: “4:30ish”
Her clock read 4:24pm
It was certainly ‘ish’ time and her friends would arrive shortly… probably…they definitely wouldn’t skimp out on this….

Just as the thought played in her mind a familiar whoosh sound filled her ears. Tiny purple pigments floated gently from a spot 3 feet away as a half Enderman girl materialized.
The girl had a slightly dazed and dizzy expression on her face, but she snapped into a bright smile when her eyes fell upon Whisper.

“Whispy!” Shadow exclaimed and held her arms out to the other Enderman.

“Shadow!” Whisper bound into her friend’s open arms for a warm embrace.

“How goes you?! Is anyone else here yet? I tried to coordinate my teleportation… no? That’s a little disappointing.. I was hoping to surprise Chaos and Greief..” she trailed off in a flurry.
Whisper simply smiled and nodded to the rambling. She to, did not appreciate being the first one there.
A branch suddenly snapped overhead followed by the crash of disturbed leaves.
A brown-haired boy in green attire dropped from the large oak which the two endermen were standing under. His path of decent collided with Shadow, driving her into the earth.

“HA!” He boasted, “Who got surprised now, ey?”

“Good to see you too, Greief.” Shadow moaned trying to pick herself up. “Get off please.”
The boy chuckled and untangled himself from the enderling.

“That was most entertaining.” said a mysterious new voice.

Greief, Whisper, and Shadow whipped their heads around. A tall, pale, figure dressed in a grey tuxedo stood staring at them in the distance.
“Ender! Hiii!” Shadow beamed and scrapped the dirt and leaves from her hair and dress. She ran to greet him.

Greief threw an annoyed hand in the air. “More mysteriously appearing endermen…” he turned around to see Whisper.
“Uh, hi.” He waved awkwardly to her while wiping the earth away from his ‘fancy’ overalls.
She grinned down at him and rocked on her heels.

The sound of uncoordinated footsteps on a dirt road filled the air. The four friends turned to see two new figures approaching from the path. The first was a tall and lean man with a blocky television for a head. He was clothed in a white and red dress while walking with little to no enthusiasm in his step. The other was a mid-sized girl in her late teens who was- skipping- beside their annoyed-looking counterpart. The girl was dressed in a dark brown tuxedo and her hair was slicked back behind pointed ears.

Shadow tugged at Ender’s arm and dragged him past Whisper and Greief to meet Robin and Converses.

“Ello peoples! Welcome to the Manor!” She said bubbly.

“Extraordinary.” Converses replied dryly, gazing at the structure. “This is sus. I feel like I might get murdered here…”

“HhhhMMMMmmmhjMmmmmmm.” A scrappy cursed noise was produced from the glitchy television-head of Robin.

“What?” Ender cocked his head.

“Oh, not again!” Converses sighed. “He keeps breaking- hold up, this won’t hurt.” Converses made a fist and punched the top of Robin’s head. The screen glitched some but Robin could finally be heard.

“Did you have to jar the receiver?” Robin lifted a hand to the top of his set and adjusted some wires.
Converses rolled her eyes. “Stop complaining, nobody could understand you, not that I fixed much.”
Robin stiffened.
There was an awkward silence.
Converses glared at Robin who was probably glaring back, but you couldn’t tell through a TV screen. Shadow looked around for a quick conversation starter. Whisper and Ender found a grassy patch with a flower and became fascinated. Greief had remained his position in the tree.

“CHAOS!” Shadow blurted suddenly.
It was true, the young blacksmith was striding down the path with both of his arms open wide and a cheerful smile on his face.

“Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears, for I have arrived!” Chaos loudly expounded. “What is this? A funeral? Don’t you people know how parties work?”
Shadow giggled and welcomed him, thankful for the change of mood.

“So where’s our planner? I thought I was late.” Chaos questioned.

“Probably getting mugged.” Robin replied. “These roads are shady, why did he pick this spot?”
Converses sighed again, “Because it’s the number one Halloween destination, Robin. Where would you rather go? A graveyard? Get festive.”

“I am festive! Have you seen this ridiculous dress? And to be honest, yes, I hear people are dying to get in graveyards these days, this is just lame.”
There was a collective moan from the group.

Suddenly, a car pulled up the pathway. It was an old black taxi of unknown origin. The windows were tinted so one could not see the inhabitants. It pulled to a stop between the massive estate and the gabbling group of friends. The passenger door creaked open and a familiar fiery figure popped up from his seat in a flashy orange and red-brown tux.
Shadow smiled.

“Trot!” She exclaimed and hugged him at the door.

“Hullo, sorry I’m late, Blue and Afap’s ride broke down, so we had to pick them up. Good to see you though.” He returned the embrace.
The other doors creaked open and sure enough, Blue and Afap emerged.

“Howdy!” They said in sync and laughed.

“Welcome, welcome!” Chaos and the others approached the car and held another session of hugging, hand-shaking, joke cracking, and pleasant fellowship.
Trot tipped the driver and as soon as the exchange was made, the black vehicle sped off into the forest road.
“Ok, bye-“ he smirked, “man’s a little odd, he said this place is cursed and I had to pay him 5 extra dollars for the trouble.”

“Well, he’s not wrong” Greief chimed in.
Trot raised an eyebrow.
“Did you do any research, Mr. Arson? Any at all? This place is obviously haunted by Rodger Chillingsworth, an old minister who owned this house during the 1800s. He went mad and killed the whole staff. Then one night he hung himself of regret and grief. They say he never died peacefully and his ghost haunts the place to this day. Every owner of this house since then has either died or disappeared a few years after residence— a- are you guys okay?”
The group had fallen silent and were all staring at him.

“That’s dumb.” Robin broke the silence.

“I believe him.” Ender piped in quietly. “This place gives me the creeps.”

Trot exhaled loudly. “Guys.” He paused. “This is supposed to be fun. We’re all going to enjoy supper and have a good time, now let’s get inside before the headless horseman comes out to get us.”

-inside-

“Welcome!” A cheerful secretary greeted the group at the door. She was dressed in all pink- literally- everything was pink. Her dress, her shirt, stockings, shoes, makeup, hair accessories- just pink.

Robin was about comment something, but Converses threatened to turn his volume down all the way for the rest of the night, so he remained quiet.

After the bright magenta secretary had checked the PMCer’s in, she guided them through several grand halls into the dining chamber.

The room was narrow, but long, and the equally long table filled the footprint of it nicely. The walls were of dark stained wood panels and were etched with intricate designs and landscapes. Masterful old paintings were hung on every-other panel, and tall, slim windows took the place of the other panels. Massive black chandeliers hung from the ceiling and were lit with actual candles, even some of the wax dripped onto the table. At the head of the table there was a massive carved stone fireplace alive and roaring with flames. It was like a dining hall stuck in time for kings of old. Even the chairs looked like small thrones. The companions all gawked at the beauty, and even Robin admitted it was cool. Ender also seemed unconcerned about ghosts anymore and this warmed Trot; he had finally won them over.

Each member took their respective seat and awaited the service, which the secretary promised would soon arrive. She quickly exited the room.

After the service arrived and the orders were made, the table-cheer conversations began. It was just like Trot envisioned it. Friends gathered together talking about life, recent accomplishments, work, studying, how awful Shadow was at cooking, art, it was the kind of talk that seemed to make all the problems in the world fade away.
When the food arrived and everyone had been satisfied, the cheer continued. It continued for about ten more minutes when suddenly the candles went out.

“I knew it!” Ender exclaimed somewhere in the dark.
“Don’t come running to me when you’re being chased by Rodger!”

“Just calm down everyone, I’m sure it’s a prank, right, Trot?” Chaos held his hands up as if anyone could see.

“Uhm. Not really.” Trot replied with mild concern in his tone.

“Wonderful, just wonderful.” Converse’s voice said freakishly close to Afap, who jumped of fright.

“What are you doing?” Afap asked, confused.

“I’m stealing food from your plate. Where did you get that casserole? It’s really good.”

“Oh my-.” Shadow put her hands on her head.

A loud crash sounded from somewhere in the room, like someone had just dropped a microphone.
SORRY.” A menacing voice boomed from a speaker somewhere in a wall.
EHEM. WELCOME TO CHILLINGSWORTH MANOR. I AM YOUR UNWITTING HOST, CALL ME ROD.”

“Like- short for Rodger? The dead guy?” Interrupted Greief from his seat.

N-NO, JUST ROD, LIKE A FISHING ROD. ANYWAY. THERE IS A THREAT AFOOT. AND IT IS YOUR JOB, AS A GROUP, TO SOLVE THIS THREAT AND SAVE YOURSELVES FROM DESTRUCTION. TWO OF YOU HAVE ARRIVED HERE UNFAITHFUL TO YOUR FRIENDS. YES, THAT’S RIGHT, THERE ARE TWO SNAKES IN THE GRASS, AND ONCE THIS MESSAGE IS COMPLETE, YOU MUST SOLVE THE RIDDLE BEFORE THERE ARE NONE LEFT TO SOLVE IT. YOUR FATE IS NOW YOUR OWN, YOU CANNOT LEAVE IF YOU TRY. GOOD LUCK LITTLE PEOPLE.”

The odd message was over and there was a moment of dead silence.
Then a robotic cackle filled the room from Robin’s seat.

“What?! This is way better than a graveyard!”

that’s it so far! Hope you enjoyed it!

I just love how Robin’s head is like a real TV, with a volume dial and him breaking sometimes.

Could I join the next one just to get immediately killed off? I wouldn't mind, and more death makes more suspense.

Great story! And I LOVE the picture you used. That actually is concept art used for Disneyland Paris' Phantom Manor ride, which is their version of the Haunted Mansion.
