I created this as a thread a while ago, but I decided it would be easier to maintain as a blog post. So, here it is.

Due to the massive amount of posts regarding Intel IGP (integrated graphics processor) driver issues recently, I decided to make this list so I don't have to type up an explanation for each thread. I will break down generations of Intel IGPs and list the newest operating system supported by them and the supported OpenGL version. You can find driver downloads here.

Information to Keep in Mind
  • If you have a 4th gen Core CPU or up, your IGP definitely has support for Windows 10. Anything prior may or may not work - some have official support from Intel, some are confirmed/believed to work using Windows 7/8.1 drivers, and some flat out don't have any driver support.
  • If Minecraft currently does not require OpenGL 2.1, it will in the near future. If you're using an IGP that doesn't support it or a newer version, you will not be able to play Minecraft. Minecraft will warn you on the title screen if you're using an unsupported GPU.
  • If your IGP does not have a driver for the operating system you're using, you may attempt to install the latest driver version for the most recent OS it supports. If this works, great; if it doesn't, you will not be able to play Minecraft.
  • If you are unable to play Minecraft on your current computer due to a lack of driver support, you have the following options: 1) Get a new computer; 2) Add in a modern dedicated graphics card (if you are using a desktop); or 3) Install an operating system that your IGP has a driver for.
  • Older IGPs were part of the motherboard's chipset as opposed to the CPU. For these IGPs, I will list the chipsets they're found in as they may be referred to by chipset name rather than IGP name within the OS.

A while back there was a huge influx of people blindly upgrading to Windows 10 and suddenly losing the ability to play Minecraft. I created this list as a quick reference for people who were experiencing or diagnosing these issues.
