Hello! I'm CheesyRice, Or you can call me by my IGN, Ricebrothuh. Today I will teach you how to make a Bukkit Minecraft server. Its pretty simple if you know the basics, But if you don't, This is the article for you. I will also tell you which Plugins I recommend and how they work! Here are the steps to make a server:

#1 [Downloading The Server] Download The Official Minecraft Server software and run it. Next, You need to go to Bukkit.org and look to the right. You should see a box that says "Recommended Builds". Click The one on the top. You should end up on another link on the official Bukkit website. Download the file. Once you have downloaded, The server should be running.

#2 [Connecting to the Server] To connect to the server, You need to either connect with "Localhost" (Without the "s) or the computer the server is running on's IP address. (I will have another blog on what an IP address is, You can look there) First, Try localhost. If that doesn't work and you will probably get a "Failed To Connect To The Server, Connection Refused:Connect" You will need your IP address. To find out your IP, Open Command Prompt. Type in "ipconfig" (Once again, Without the "s). Your IP will be the IPv4 Address. Use that and you should connect.

#3 [Setting Up Gamemode and Op] Open Console with the official Minecraft Server Software and type in, for example "op Ricebrothuh" (But replace Ricebrothuh with whoever you want to be op, and NO "s) You should be OP! If this does not work please contact me as I will correct my errors. If you want to be creative to build a spawn, type /gamemode [player] 0/1 (Survival is Gamemode 0 and Creative is Gamemode 1) IN THE GAME if you type this in console with /s it will not read it. Once you are done with this you can close Console and run bukkit.

#4 [Making Your Server 24/7 And Hosted] This is probably the least fun step of all. You have to buy hosting and the company will port forward for you (Just ask if you want a port forwarding guide) and run it almost 99% of the time. To buy it, I Strongly recommend Servercraft, As there customer support is the best. To view the plans click here. It starts at about $7.99 USD, 5.14 GBP, or 6.54 Euros Monthly. This is VERY easy if you have fans of your server and they donate a lot! This is better than a self-hosted server because your players can be online any time! Your server should be up an running within 48 Hours and if you use Servercraft you will get an email subjected "Your Minecraft Server Is Done!". if you want to upload your previous world, Go to "Customer Support"

#5 [Setting Up Permissions] Here, I will tell you have to set up permission nodes with Bukkit. Normally, Bukkit permission nodes start with bukkit.command. So to kick, it would be bukkit.command.kick. Here is a list of all the bukkit commands and permissions. I would also recommend Essentials, And all the permissions are here. To put these in, If your are using Servercraft, Go to the "McMyAdmin" part, log in and go to Users And Groups. Put the permissions in the last column. Add all the permissions you want. NOTE::You must put the nodes in the different groups you want.

#6 [Getting Plugins] This is my favorite part. Getting Plugins. To install plugins, Download them from Bukkit.org. Then, Once you have downloaded them, go to you plugins folder and upload them there. After that, you can restart your server and all your plugins should be working fine! if they aren't, Contact me. I can help. Here are some plugins I recommend: Essentials, EssentialsSpawn, EssentialsChat, EssentialsGroupManager, EssentialsGroupBridge--These make colored names. Worldedit & Worldguard--These Protect land And you can edit faster! ReportRTS--Do "ModReqs" and your players contacting staff is so much easier with this, and it also reduces help spam. I also Recommend LWC, Which allows players to lock their doors and chests with /cprivate [theirname].

Thanks for Reading! I worked really hard on this guide so I hope you enjoyed it and your server turns out well! If you have any ideas or questions just leave a comment! I will get to you as soon as I can!
