Chapter One

"Why? Why must this happen to me? A night shift at the maximum security prison is simply the best job. Brilliant salary. 4 hour shifts. Minimal work. This is the best time of my life. Why must this happen to me? I mean I know the risks. But there hasn't been a prison break, not even once since it was built 50 years ago..." He was running. Quickly. He took a left turn along the cramped and dark passageway. Then a right. Then another left. Before long, he was lost. He kept running and soon found himself in a dead end. Frantically, he turned around and ran again. "Which way should I go??? Which way should I go?!?!" Suddenly, he saw a dark figure appear on his right. He took the other passage, the left one, and sprinted. He had never run that fast in his life. He was trying to break his record, when suddenly with a loud thump, he tripped over and hit the floor. The dark figure was getting closer and closer... Thoughts raced across his mind. His brilliant years of childhood... All the fun he had with his classmates... All the epic vacation trips...That girl... His thoughts were interrupted by a faint yet recognizable sound. Ssssssss...
