The Anglo-Saxon alphabet is one of the runic alphabets. Runic alphabet is a group of Germanic languages which are derived off of each other. The Anglo-Saxons used runes and characters instead only characters like we use today. The Anglo-Saxon runic alphabet was called Futhorc; it was named after an elderman named Futhark. Futhorc contains 24 runes; five extras are used at the end to supplement the vowel sounds.

Each rune has an image, a meaning, a name, and a sound. For example, the first rune of the alphabet in Futhorc is Feoh; it is the o Fo sound in Futhorc and it means o Wealth.o

Every rune has a character that represents its sound. For example Feoho s character is very similar to the letter o Fo we have today.

Futhorc has a special format in manuscript. There are three rows. There is one row of 16 runes on the top with their characters underneath them. The second row has 12 runes with their characters below it. The last row has 5 characters above 6 runes. The reason for 33 runes in manuscript is because some of them areno t always included except in some manuscript.

Futhorc is a very interesting language and is probably where we got some letters and words today.
