Let's perform a little social experiment.
Go onto the popreel in skins. Find any teen skin.
Tell me how many clicks it took to break eye contact with the "generic" teen skins.

This is a blog that, when read only partially, will make some people angry. Viewer discretion is advised.

Skin diversity - what is it?
Well, it's a diverse array of skins. Which technichally already exists. But no, scratch that defenition. Let's re-define skin diversity as "a diverse selection of skin types in a readily acessible format."  Now that we have that out of the way, let's get down to business. I've noticed that for a long time on PMC there has been a lack of skin diversity. Most skins that are dfferent, that break the norm, that are unique and great, they generally get ignored by a vast majority of people. I think this is because the skin section is purely visible - you don't need to read or explore. Just enjoy the art...right? But this means that a skin that's different and unexpected will go onto the pop reel only for its creator to rarely be featured because people don't want to explore more.  Even worse, though, is the "generic" skin. Yes, that's what I'm talking about - you'll call it the "teen" skin or the "anime" skin but it's just "generic." Little to none shading and too much noise, the "generic" skin will always be ignored. But we must remember that a "generic" skin is not the most prominent type of skin on the popreel now - that's what I call a "popular" skin, a "generic" skin that has been so well executed that it no longer fits into that criteria. But the giveaway? The eyes. That's basically the only genetic link between the two species of skin. The eyes. What I'm getting at is that these skins are great - excellent, in fact - but they dominate all of the other skins, crush the competition. I like these skins, do not get me wrong, but I must stress this - there are too many. PMC's skin section has a problem - it's nearing monotonity, with only a few new colors here and there. And not in skins, either, but in skinning styles. And this is a personal message to all the people who make popular skins like this:
I like you guys, I really do. But you're, in essence, setting yourselves up for criticism and you don't know it. People who see the great amount of awesome popular skins get angry that their skin of a differing style isn't popular and they will simply attack teen skins in general. I'm sorry but the sheer amount of these types of skins is making people angry and I think that if you'd like to be part of the solution just listen up.
Now I have a proposition for the PMC skinning community.
My proposition is for a "Skinning Diversity Week" of sorts. Where, one week a year, everyone tries something they never have before - maybe a simple skinner makes a teen skin, perhaps a popular skinner tries cartoony. You never know, you might discover your talent for a different breed of skin. PMC, let's take the skin section and pour paint all over it. Pink, red, fuschia, all the colors of the rainbow. May 25-31. PMC Skinning Diversity Week.
This is just a small blog but it's something, right?

If you support Skinning Diversity Week, please use the hashtag:
#SkinDiversity
In your signature.
If you don't like hashtags just put "I support Skin Diversity Week" in there.
And if you support it, try skinning something new. You never know.
We might just make a difference.

EDIT: Oh my lord guys, thank you so much for pop reel. You don't know how much this means to me and I hope enough people see this so that we can make a difference - Skin Diversity Week for the win :3
Also, thanks to vikki7783 for her wonderful banner:

Meanwhile, you have one teen skin with no shading and lots of noise.

While I agree that stepping outside your comfort zone can be a good learning experience as an artist, I disagree with the notion that everyone should do so simply because "there are too many teen skins". People make what they want and I'm okay with that so long as it isn't stolen, offensive, etc. People should never be afraid to do what they're good at or want to do just because "you're setting yourselves up for critisism". Anything you ever do in life will set you up for someone's critisism, good or bad.

It's tempting to say how this blog can be considered very... negative, and I could probably write several paragraphs as a response, but I've learned people often don't really give a damn what you say against them when they post things like this, you won't change their opinions or views.

To be honest, skinning diversity is already located in the skinning community, and it is already highly supported by a lot of skinners. I don't think a week would help as the only ones that probably would be seen in it are the ones that already made different kind of skins before. There has already been a lot of blogs about this, and none of them helped.

I think a skinning diversity "week" could just be spreed over a whole year. I myself is a contrasted detailed gradiency skinner, and I experiment a lot with simpler skins and sometimes simple skins.

If you get enough to join this, I'd happily see it a thing. I also find it weird that the diversity banner is as I can see some pretty common skins used by "youtubers" which isn't too special, however they might resemble skin diversity even though they all are barely shaded.

I didn't want to run 'you don't have a right to use this skin' issues, so yeah
