SpellCraft is a new mod to be released sometime during 1.9. With this mod, you can learn the ways of spellcasting and control all the elements in the world from a series of spell-books.

Healing, unlike the slow trickle of health as to be provided from food, will restore your health quickly when you are in dire need!

Shields, protect yourself from mobs and the arrows and fireballs they send flying at you!

Teleportation, whether travelling up a cliff or from town to town, or escaping a deep dark cavern, no longer must you clamber tirefully to reach your destination!

Invoking the Elements! Get back at those creepers that once blew you away, or seek revenge on those fireball flinging ghasts, now you can invoke the powers of the gods: lightning bolt, fireball, spell rockets, turning the dead and more!

Spell traps, stop those pesky endermen stealing parts of your shrine with spell traps that send them flying into the air or cage them in an unbreakable shield!

And much much more!

Specs:

Particle effects that will blow your mind away! Presently, I have created spherical orb effects such as the one in the featured image, as well as orbs circling one another in front or around the caster. I'll be making these much more versatile.

Spell-binding to come, you bind a keyboard combination to a spell so you can cast your favourite spells quickly and effortlessly.

Sequencing to come, cast a combination of spells at once and become the most powerful spellcaster around.

I'm looking into multiplayer and bukkitcraft so that we can have duelling!

I'm also trying to figure out a way of allowing others to make mods that extend this one.

Ideas and suggestions are welcome!

Footnote: I'm well aware of WizardCraft, believe me when I say SpellCraft will be quite different.

lol you do know that 1.9 is gone now and we're on to the full release (1.0.0) so you'll need to update your wel... date

Yes. And raising the dead too hopefully. Though I'm not sure if I can alter them so that they're friendly with the player.

Uhm, I can't come up with any mods but, will this be multiplayer compatible too? Guess not but hopefully :P

Guys, I'd like you to tell me what mods you'd want this to be compatible with (don't say all because that doesn't help). This will help me decide how exotic the spells can be.

i had just had a great idea it would be VERY hard to do but i think you could do it say if your casting a REALLY MEGA-SUPER-ULTRA powerful fire spell you have the fire particles from the furnaces SPINNING around you and if you cast some sort of i dont know dark thing you have a ball of portal particles around you like in the picture

It's do-able and not that complicated, but minecraft always has the issue of lag. It's written in java, and java's problem is always speed. I'll give it a go, but don't expect to see it in the first release. I'll mostly be getting the basics made and then add new spells and such later.

One thing I do need is ideas for magical items aside spell books. Like enchanted weapons and what they might do.

Unfortunately, due to 1.9 being released so fast and that I've been busy with life stuff, I don't think I'll be releasing this for 1.8. I would also like to make this mod and the potions of 1.9 compliment each other.

i have an idea how about as you gain exp you can upgrade your spell so say on level one lightning bolt strikes once whereas on level 2 it might strike twice or somthing like that anyway!

you mean that exp bar that came out in 1.8? Yeah, that makes sense. Spells should maybe give exp too. And perhaps some spells can't be cast at all unless you're high level enough.

Ok, I'd like some suggestions on this.

Would you like there to be a skill level system, so that you have to practice spells to cast more powerful ones? Or perhaps different levels of spell power depending on the caster's skill level?

I'd like ideas for spells if you guys can think of some? I will only take on spell ideas that won't require modifying base files.

Any ideas for some awesome particle effects?
