Greetings, my fellow friends! It's me, Eli! You know, that cat frog hybrid that makes occasionally blogs from how busy she is? No? *Sigh* Oh well. Introductions aside, it's that time again where monsters with humanity don't get judged for their appearances and candy rains from the sky! Yes, I am talking about Halloween, and with Halloween, comes the yearly Spooky Scary Blog Month!
"But Eli!" Says a Magikarp in a ghost blanket costume; how original. "You didn't do a SSBM Blog in 2019! All you did was a stupid skin that wasn't even a blog. We want our money back!!" Woah woah woah! You never paid for anything while reading this blog! But alas, this Magikarp has a point. I was quite bankrupt on ideas for what blog to do for SSBM 2019, so I decided against it, which I assume disappointed a lot of you and I apologize for that. However, this year, I'm making up for it with not just one, but two SSBM blogs! One for this year and one for the next! Merry Spooky Month Before Christmas, everybody!
That's right! thanks to a humble requester by the name of Yoshiciao, they have given me the idea of (spoilers for next year) Mario 64 glitches and more spookiness from it. However, since I'm not an avid Mario 64 fan (despite growing up with it as a kid), I do not have the vast knowledge of the game's glitches. But there's one game I'm a big nerd about and that's Pokemon! Sure, everybody knows Missingno, "M," the ghosts, or it's fossil variants and how it can give you more of an advantage than a game breaker (unless you count the hall of fame or jumbled Pokemon battle sprites as "game breaking"), but did you know there are more glitches you can find with the power of hacking? So sit back and scroll through this blog as I tell you about some not-as-well known Pokemon glitches! Muahahaha!
There's nothing scarier than losing your save file in a Pokemon game, but saving your progress of Pokemon X and Y in Lumiose City only to find out the game freezes up and makes you start over from scratch is an even worse feeling! Luckily, Game Freak acknowledged this glitch and made a patch that fixes it entirely, so you won't find it with a newer patched version of the game. Before this patch, in order to preform the glitch, you must save between the north and south boulevards of Lumiose City, which in turn will have a high chance of freezing the game and of course, starting all over.
The next glitch is called the bad egg. Why? Because it doesn't hatch and causes a lot of trouble. Now, this glitch has been in a lot of games as a counter to cheating. In the 3rd generation, this egg in your party took the form of a golden Bulbasaur, and viewing it could cause a lot of issues, like crashing and occasionally deleting your data. However, some of these aren't classified as eggs and are normal Pokemon, like "??" and "??????????", which take the form of two single question marks and the other being a question mark inside a target. In battle, most of these faint instantly or have a single bit of HP with the move Tackle. Luckily, it's impossible to encounter these without a cheating device, so if you're not a cheater, chances are, you won't ever encounter a bad egg.
Also, did you know that there are more glitch Pokemon besides Missingno and it's variants? While most recent glitch Pokemon are just eggs or Bulbasaurs that turn into newer Pokemon when transferred over, there are variants of Missingno that can be encountered in gen 1 with weird names that have the name PKMN in it, a random Magnemite named "," random jumbles of letters like "X C", some with this particular Japanese character, "ゥ," like "Pゥ ゥ ゥ," and even ones that sound disappointed in you for summoning them like "-_-" or "......"! Terrifying indeed! What's even more spooky that a lot of them look like cousins of the legendary Missingno, but not as well known. Most of these can be obtained with certain Time Capsule exploits, while others are done with the Ditto Glitch, which you can find info of here. If you want something more normal, if you cheat in gen 5 to allow yourself to catch anything, you can catch the Pokestar Studios stands for yourself with actual moves and stuff!
The last glitch I'd like to share with you is the most terrifying of glitches, called Glitch City. This is only available in gen 1, so you won't have to deal with this in later games. The method to pulling off this glitch is rather complicated, but the results are rather bone chilling once you do so. Since the method is hard for me to explain myself, you can find out how to do it here. Once you manage to pull off the complex steps, you enter a town that makes you realize the Pokemon World is not what it seems... The scary reality that it's not real! *Gasp!* However, a lot of you already know this, so it's not that scary of a fact, but imagine a kid pulling this off on accident and finding out everything they know is a lie! Luckily, to escape this glitchy heck, you can just fly or teleport away.
But these aren't the only glitches in the Pokemon games. There's a lot more you can find yourself, some good and some bad. If you're interested in any more info about glitch Pokemon or Pokemon glitches in general, feel free to look them up on Bulbapedia! It helped a lot in the research of this blog, and as always, have a happy Halloween, and don't forget to live life the porposeful way!
