Steve turned around quickly, but he saw nothing there. it must have been the wind, he thought. he kept calm, and continued his walk to his house. after awhile, he forgot about it and kept walking.
but then he heard it again, slightly louder this time. it sounded like a short hiss. But Steve was brave, and he knew that last time he heard it nothing bad happened. but Steve knew, just in case there WAS anything to worry about, he should make a weapon of some sort. so he kept walking, until he got back home. during the trip, he hadn't gotten any food, so he just had to deal with it. he had a bunch of spare wood, so he tried to make a simple weapon. while punching things earlier, he found out that his knuckles were the pointiest bit of his hand, and they hurt things more. so as to make his weapon as pointy as possible, so he sharpened it for about half an hour. it was made of wood, and he called it a sword.
when he had finished, he went with his sword to find out what that peculiar hissing sound was.
the moment he stepped out his door, he saw a huge hairy eight-legged beast, with eight evil red staring eyes. Steve named this a spider, because it was spying on him earlier. after a few cuts with Steve's sword, the creature was history. Steve searched it's corpse for useful things, but all he found was some string. he kept it, in case it would come in handy. Steve knew it was time to sleep, so he gathered his warmth and went to a troubled sleep.
