Texture Pack Ideas?

I'm going to start making my very first texture pack very soon. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on a SIMPLE texture pack. I don't want to go back and edit every single item, just enough that it makes a difference. I think I might make a purple or blue redstone one. I'm not really sure though. I might do a mob edit to match a cartoon or move or TV show. If you have any of those you might like to see pixelized, that would be doable. Maybe even a video game.

You need the png files your probhably saving the gimp file when you need to export it, hope this helped

You should make some realistic stuff if you are making a texture pack i sudgest getting gimp 2 as it is a free software and it's amazingly good to make texture packs as you can use a blur tool to mix colours. I hope this helps

Thanks for the help, just one question, should I change the .xcf files to .png? When I do it messes up everything, and when I keep them as .xcf it doesn't change anything in minecraft.
