Over the last few weeks I have posted 2 other 'Civilization Projects'. The first was poorly planned and failed reach its objective because of unavoidable flaws. The second was also a failure and ended after just a few days. So with that in mind read this with controlled expectations.

The Civilisation Project 3.0


Aims

The aims of this project is to create a server that is fun and fresh to play, to many servers have become stale and I can't see that changing any time soon. To achieve the fresh feel I plan on taking minecraft back to its origins - mining then crafting - but with a few extra elements that will hopefully improve the realism of the game play.

So to summarise this project will create a realistic, true to life survival existence, server that hopes to refresh the Minecraft experience.

Set up (plugins and rules)

As with the previous two, this server will be as realistic as I can make it so it will use Hardcore mode when you die your dead there will be 'Ages' and all deaths will be reset at the start of each 'Age' the length of these will be determined later.

To further create a 'Real world' experience, a few minecraft elements will be taken out such as monsters, Enchanting, the nether, the end and potions. Iron Golems will be taken out to but villages will remain and although The End will be taken out the fortress will still be spawned so could be found.

Without monsters there are a few things that will nether be possible such as farming gun powder and bones - players will only come across this in chests found in temples, villages and abandoned mine shafts making them rarer than usual. There will not be any endermen either so no ender pearls.

Other plugins will be added to improve the realism of the server I am finding more of these everyday so expect this list to change over time.

Realistic enhancements
  • Weather/biome alterations - Biomes are great fun to explore, but there not very realistic. The 1.7.2 update did alter this so that biomes have temperatures and spawn with more consistency, however this server will take place in one country with one biome that will have seasons. In winter it will snow in summer it might rain and in autum and spring it will rain more often than summer. Weather will be more predictable also with patterns recognisable.
  • Temperature - in winter players will need to wrap up warm using leather armour for warmth (I would like to change this to new custom clothing made from wool) in winter players in armour will get warm quickly affecting food saturation.
  • Food - Food is fairly realistic at the moment, if you don't eat you lose health and die. Food saturation is how long it takes to become hungry again - I would like to add water into the mix. (If I can find a plugin) Players will need to drink as well as eat and in the summer they will need to drink more.
  • Farming - Yeah because wheat grows in three days - this will be altered to tie in with the seasons (dont try growing wheat in winter, keep it wet in summer etc) New players will need to rely on apples and other players when they begin.
  • Mining - I will research real world mining before deciding on any changes here. I think mining should be more centralised, after all real minders don't dig down to bedrock and start branch/strip mining. I will look at the world generators that make veins of minerals (coal, iron, etc). This would also create a new feature as players seek out good mining spots and maybe even fight over them, who knows?
  • fishing - 1.7.2 has made fishing much better but its likely this server will be on an earlier version so I may have to look at fishing.
  • Building - this will be pretty much true to vanilla minecraft with no changes planned at this time.
  • trading - Villager trading will be the same, players are responsible for any sort of trading with other players.
  • World limit - There will be one I just havent decided what it will be yet, its likely to be large enough for players to expand without getting in the way of each other but small enough to travel across in a few minecraft days - so about 20k

I will update this every other day, there is no rush for this I want it to work this time.

As advertising the server I.P here would be against the rules anyone interested interested in joining this server will need to use the search engine on PMC. but its not live yet so don't bother looking just yet.

yeah I will be setting up a separate server for this one, the other server has proved popular as a vanilla server running on 1.7.2 so i will leave that as it is.
