Hello to anyone reading this (all three of you)!

I'm going to start writing movie reviews. I doubt that many people will read them, because I'm not going to be just reviewing the new releases and if I do it'll be a week or two late :P I'll just review whatever movie I have watched most recently, whether it be an old favourite or a new discovery.

The Darjeeling Limited (2007)
Directed by Wes Anderson
Starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman
The Darjeeling Limited - Movie Review

The Darjeeling Limited tells the story of three estranged brothers who take a train tour of India in order to rebuild their relationship after having not spoken to each other since their father's funeral a year before. The tour is organised by Owen Wilson's character Francis and on the way the brothers grow closer and learn valuable life lessons.

This movie has a very sad tone that Anderson's other movies haven't had and it deals with more mature themes. It has more symbolic/metaphorical imagery than Wes normally uses. It sets a very interesting tone that helps set apart this film from Anderson's others.

The film is of course very beautiful visually with vibrant colours everywhere from the train to the markets to the temples. The setting, India, is perfect for Wes Anderson's style and it really is one of, if not his most, beautiful movies.

Like many of Anderson's movies the story is timeless and could really be set in any time period. Nothing in the film really pops out as being from any specific decade. It gives a sense of "hightened reality" as Wes has described it himself, like a fantasy world, but still manages to be very realistic.

I think this is one of Anderson's most grounded movies. It doesn't have a huge cast to focus on like a lot of his recent films and can instead just tell the story of the three brothers. Not that big casts are a bad thing, but it's nice to have a smaller focus. The brothers are all interesting characters and there is no real lead character. They are all given equal screentime and development and it's great to see the arc their relationship goes through throughout the story.

Overall, The Darjeeling Limited is a beautiful heartfelt story with more mature and sadder themes than most of Anderson's work. It's one of my favourite of his movies and I personally think it was underrated among critics.

4.35/5 stars

Would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially if you are a fan of Wes Anderson's movies.

Thank you for reading :)
