I dont really feel like there are bad builds per say (except maybe pixel art) because even mediocre builds can be turned into something tastful with just a few alterations. To me, the difference between a good build and a great build is detail and depth. Detail can come from anywhere; such as using stairs and slabs to create patterns on walls and floors or maybe using cobblestone walls and fences to add a small variance to a plain surface. Another way to add some detail is to try and eliminate sudden corners (where your walls meet) by curving them into one another. One thing you should never do is use too much or too little variation to the blocks you use. This is so you dont overload the contrast in your build and ultimately end up with something unsatisfactory while keeping in mind that you dont want it to be dull either. Now, depth on the other hand is different. Depth is created when your colors either flow into one another or clash to make each of them stand out. It is also adding layers instead of having everything on the same level, as in maybe adding a pattern protruding from a wall to make it stand out or maybe adding darker colors to make the lighter ones appear brighter. This usually adds texture to a build and is what really turns a build into art.

General Walk Through (I through this build together as an example so please dont be too harsh) ;)

Laying the foundation

Getting a starting point by outlining with walls

Focus on one point first :
Here I started with the floor.

Think about what you can do next :
After finishing the floor, I then focused on the walls. I added stone walls and stairs to add detail along with the tinted windows for some color. Then i realized  that i needed something to contrast with all the grey, so i added some spruce logs to add variety. I then placed mossy cobblestone under the cobblestone walls so they werent sitting on the grass. This also helps add depth to the build. The details I added also helped round out the corners so i didnt chance the walls themselves.

The next point of interest :
After completing the walls I then turned my attention to the roof. Never make a flat roof because that really takes away from builds. So I make a graduating roof and mixed in some cobblestone slabs so it wasnt too much of the same blocks.

Search for additional things you can do to add more detail :
I decided I wasn't too happy with the roof so I added on to it. I made somewhat of a canopy and decided to use regular fences to add a little bit more variety to the color scheme. I also gave it raised corners so it wasn't dull and flat.

Now, keeping all this in mind, you can see why I dont particularly find builds bad, just not having reached their full potential. Too me, taking your time on a build and focusing on one single aspect at a time can make a world of a difference; like laying out the floor plan first and seeing what you can do to make it interesting, then adding walls and maybe windows and look for ways to make them stand out, then moving on to something else. If you were to just build a shell of the building then go back and add details you may overlook aspects of the build that could have been something much better. By focusing on one part at a time you can ensure that each will be quality and not just part of something good. This is the difference between a good build and a great build.

I hope you have found this informative as these are my true beliefs and this is how i go about my builds. Happy building! :) If you liked my first blog remember to give a Diamond and Favorite if you loved it. Sub if you want more!

Hey look, Vadact Creative. The structure is good, but it could use some more wood to contrast withthe gray.

I really like the message of the post. I had this "aha" experience on my own some days ago. Bringing detail into an already existing building is far more difficult than building it with detail from the beginning. Sure it takes more time, but its worth it in the end.

Why not add some example screen to the post? this would make this good one even great! ^^

Nevertheless, take my diamondzzzz.
