The Legend of Steve

Many people wonder about Steve, a person who became so influential in the world of Minecraft. After analyzing several old notebooks and journals, and using simple guesswork, we have a somewhat clear idea about Steve's life was like.

My friends, this is the story of a man who found his way in an unfamiliar land several years ago.

It is said that Steve used to be an ordinary person. There was nothing about him that suggested that he would one day become someone whose story would be passed down for generations.

Nothing. At. All.
Seriously.

He worked an office job, not getting out much. He had his worries and fears, but nothing too facinating. Average. He had hopes and dreams like you and I. Average. He hoped for a promotion. Again, average.

But there was one day, on the 1st of June, that he decided that he wanted to be a hero, the kind whose story you remember.
This does not happen overnight, though. Steve theorized and planned for days, and finally, he knew exactly how he’d start to stand out. Steve was going to travel to a different place.

He called it “Cave World,” since his plan was to harvest resources and become rich, after becoming famous from discovering the new world. (After all, what else would be do there?) He spent a lot of time on his little project (about 2 months or so) but by July 29, he finished his preparations. Steve’s machine (which he used to travel) was called the “Pixel Portal Device.” He called it this because its exterior appearance was squareish and flat, like a pixel. It wasn't particularly noteworthy or exciting, (just like Steve himself) but it worked. He set it up and finally set out to achieve his dream. With a deep breath and high hopes, he stepped into the portal.

What Steve wasn’t aware of was that he was going to a world with more than just caves. Not only that, but somehow, the appearance of his portal would impact his life forever.

Steve ended up on a cold wet beach near desolate rocky mountains and sweet smelling forests. As he took a second to recuperate, he realized one detail that terrified him.
He was a blocky man in a blocky world with absolutely no idea how to get home, survive, or really anything useful. And it was at this very moment, that he heard a squid swimming in the water, a sheep baaa-ing in the distance, and pigs oinking as well.
Evidently, this new world was full of life. 16-bit, pixel-y life, for that matter.
Nonetheless, the sun was going down and Steve needed to get a move on. So, he rose up from the ground and walked in one direction, towards the lush green foliage.

The Legend of Steve

He noticed, as he came closer to the forest, that even the leaves were blocky. Steve, at first, was terribly confused at this, and had no idea why everything turned out this way. He decided to ignore it and to get on with what he was doing, since night would surely arrive before long.

When he approached one of the trees, he started to realize that he didn’t know how to harvest wood. He tried cutting it down using sharp pieces of stone on the ground, but was unsuccessful. Then, in his rage and confusion, he punched the tree. Luckily for Steve, that was the correct way to harvest trees without an axe, and the tree broke apart. However, he made a startling observation: the other part of the tree, which he had not touched, was suspended in air, and the part he harvested was floating on the ground. Bewildered, he picked up the wood and continued punching trees.

This went on for quite a long while. Eventually, he figured that he had enough and tried to come up with a use for the wood. He broke it apart and tried assembling it in all sorts of ways, eventually making something resembling a table. This accomplishment gave Steve a good feeling, so he continued to try crafting new things. He ended up making a wooden pickaxe, and at this point, became overjoyed. He could finally mine and get resources!

Gleefully, he travelled with great haste to a large cave he had seen while punching trees earlier. This cave was dark and extended deep underground. He stayed close enough to the surface so that he could see the sun and where he had begun to set up camp.

The Legend of Steve

Whilst inside the cave, a bat flew at him, almost knocking him over. Steve stood his ground, fortunately, and spotted a vein of pure black coal. With the wooden pick he had worked so hard to craft, he attempted to mine it. The ore split into pieces, again leaving a blocky hole in its wake. By now he had gotten used to this pixel-y world, so this was of no surprise to him. He spent the rest of the day mining more coal and some stone. As night fell, he crawled out of the damp cave and returned to the crafting table, and after a few attempts, crafted torches.

Placing torches around his little base, he came to the conclusion that “Cave World” was a terrible name for this newfound land. So he came up with a new name, in honor of his first 2 real achievements: “Minecraft.” (I figure he liked the way it rolled off the tounge.)

Steve spent the rest of the night crafting various items: furnaces, pickaxes, and other useful tools. He came in contact with monsters a few times, but he was able to fend them off.

The following morning, another thing dawned on him: he needed food. Desperately. Steve gathered his belongings and set out to find something that he could eat. He came across a pig and slaughtered it for some fresh pork chops. After cooking them in his furnace, he had a feast under the sunrise.

Now I’m not going to tell you every single detail of each day Steve resided in Minecraft, (that’d take too long) but I can give you a summary.

By Steve’s second week in Minecraft, he had mined iron and made armor. He had done some more exploration in that cave he found and came across redstone as well as a dungeon with mossy cobblestone walls. He became quite the fighter, and was very, VERY proud of himself. Steve also started a farm, and grew wheat. Using this wheat, he bred cows and sheep. Steve had also started building his house by this point in time, but hadn't finished yet.

By the end of his first month, his house was completed and he had a rather estensive storage room. This was important, as he came across new ores such as lapis lazuli and gold. After venturing even deeper, he found diamond! With these, he crafted better tools and armor. His farm was growing, as he had found carrots and potatoes from a nearby village. He could now breed pigs as well, and therefore had more of a variety in his diet.

Eventually, Steve decided that it was time to go home. After spending a month there in Minecraft, he grew homesick of his previous life. With obsidian and flint and steel, he made something that resembled the device he came into Minecraft with. He was skeptical of leaving his new world, though. There was so much here, so much to see and do. With a heavy heart but also a feeling of accomplishment, he stepped into the new portal.

He found a place he had seen before, but it looked.. strange..
What he found was, indeed, Earth, but after many years of destruction and war. He ran for his life, because, as any sensible person would know, you really don't want to stay somewhere like that.

Poor Steve was shocked, but he realized that he must have been gone for too long. It was pretty obvious that time in Minecraft and time on Earth were different. Another theory he had was that perhaps it was also a time machine, taking him too far forward. Nonetheless, he could do nothing to save the world he left behind. Grief filled his heart and he went back to his new home, returning to the now devastated realm only to recover what he could.

By the end of his first full year in Minecraft, he found an abandoned stronghold. (He knew that it was abandoned because its stone brick walls were cracked and mossy.) With pearls from what he called endermen and powder from the lava monsters he referred to as blazes, he found out that a portal within the stronghold could still function, after a few repairs. Going inside it brought him to a domain full of endermen, and one dragon. The dragon, after noticing Steve, engaged him in a battle. The ground was cream colored and sort of resembled cobblestone. Obsidian pillars dotted the land, making it hard for Steve to see. Defeating the dragon was fairly difficult, but in the end Steve was victorious.

The years following were full of invention. Steve eventually figured out that that redstone is used in circutry. He made potions, found out how to enchant, and discovered new biomes. He spotted quartz in the Nether (he got this name by fusing New and Earth.) Steve also created machinery and various new types of food.

Even with all these innovations, Steve couldn't help but wish that someone else could be there too. Up until his last few years of life, he didn't have much social interaction.
Poor guy. He must have gone insane.

WAIT A SECOND..
What about Steve's life on Earth? A man suddenly missing is hardly something people ignore.
Well, a few days after Steve didn't return to work people began to worry. A week went by, and then people started searching his old apartment. Eventually, they found what he used to travel into Minecraft. Since humans are so curious, eventually more and more people started to go through the portal. However, since time on Earth and in Minecraft are so different, Steve was long gone before they came.

Steve's life in Minecraft was a long and lonely one. He had no human interaction until his last years, when he met a girl named Alex, who'd found the machine before anyone else. (He had pets and farm animals which he talked to daily, but that's not the same thing.)  When Alex first met Steve, he had already aged. They became good friends, and he showed her the things he had discovered.

So, my friends, whenever you wonder how Steve ever came to be in Minecraft, remember this story; It was his own invention.
We will always remember him as a hero. We will carry on his legacy, and together, we will keep on learning about the strange and unfamiliar world of Minecraft.

You should of put like a fellow scientist or "hero wanna-be" came into the world and had discovored Steve. At first sight they instantly fell in love and keep on going into the future. The dude that explained the contest said maybe add what you think will be in the future.
