The maiden of the stars

A long time ago, there lived a girl. She was often misunderstood and neglected. She was always being pushed around, and she was too scared to tell anyone. Always feeling lonely, and empty inside.

On a cold, rainy day at school, everyone was sitting inside the library, taking shelter from the rain.

Everyone was inside except her. She was sitting out on the small balcony, listening and watching the rain. Blocking out everyone in the world except her and the rain, something bubbled inside of her. A longing, a craving, a yearning. She looked up at the sky, darkness slowly invading the stormy skies. It would be time to go back to her dorm soon.

“Everyone, it’s time to go back to your dorms.” Said a teacher. The girl sighed quietly, and gazed up at the stars starting to spread across the night sky, and didn’t budge. A boy came out onto the balcony and asked “Why are you out here all alone? We have to go back to our dorms.”



“…The stars.” She said “They’re so pretty.”

The boy paused for a moment. He had seen this girl alone a lot, actually. “..Yeah. They are.” He said.

The girl looked up at the sky, and her heart skipped a beat when some of the stars came together to form a constellation of her mother, who passed a year after she was born.

“Lisa.” Her mother said. “It is your time to shine, like all the other stars in the sky. Take my hand.” She said.

The boy stood back in awe as the girl reached for her mother’s hand. She was lifted up into the sky, and a blinding flash of light passed and there she was, wearing a beautiful star speckled dress, with a few clips in her hair resembling stars.

“Go on now, shine like all the stars in the sky.” Her mother said. Lisa smiled at the boy and said, “We’ll meet again, I’m sure.” She then flew up into the sky, and the only trace left of her was a newly placed, sparkling star. “For you,” said her mother. “Are the Maiden of the Stars.”
