A short disclaimer before I start, all the ideas I am putting here have come to me at one point or another and I have refrained from reading any of the other entries to this contest, so that I will not be tempted to copy other people's ideas. If some of the things I put here are also in previous contest entries, then I am sorry, I was not intentionally copying. Great minds think alike!

Things that Minecraft NEEDS - Blog Contest Entry

In my opinion, this category needs the most updates. There are a lot of people who like to build and decorate things in Minecraft, in fact, that's almost literally all that some of them do. I feel that there are many things that can be done to make it much more enjoyable for everybody.

SLABS
You probably saw this coming :P Slabs are a great building material, as they are great at adding texture and detail to builds. However, the selection of slabs in Minecraft is very limited. At the time of this blog, there are slabs for each type of wood, cobblestone, stone, quarts, purpur, and a few more. Adding slabs for all---or nearly all--the blocks in Minecraft would give builders a huge variety of new blocks to enhance their builds even more. And now, the thing that is probably in every other blog post: Vertical slabs. Vertical slabs would greatly help builders with detail on buildings. I'm not going to go into great detail as others surely have, though I will add a picture below for an example as to how.

PAINTINGS
One thing that I've seen countless people experience including myself is trying to get the one painting that they want on their wall, yet every time they put up a picture it ends up being the wrong one and they have to punch it off and try again, and again, and again. I think that Minecraft needs to add some way to choose which painting you want. I know that if you are looking for a certain small painting, then you can but blocks around the area you want it to force it to be a small painting, but you can't guarantee the one you want. I'm not exactly sure how this could be implemented, but I think it would stop a lot of headaches.

STAIRS & FLOWERS
This is basically the same as slabs, I think that adding new stairs for all the blocks would be a good idea and would help builders greatly with their creations. The same also goes for flowers, some people don't really care at all about the flowers but some people use them a lot for decoration, so adding some more variety would be nice.

BUILDER'S WAND
This was more of just a fleeting idea I got, I don't think that Minecraft desperately needs it, but I think a Builder's Wand would help speed up large projects when a large area is needed to be filled in quickly. (If you don't know what a Builder's Wand is, it's from a mod which you can read about here).

I am a pretty big redstoner, if that's even a term. I enjoy redstone and like making cool machines and secret doors. I do, however, think that there are a few changes that could be made to make...redstoning easier (I really sound like a professional XD)

MULTI-COLORED REDSTONE DUST
One thin that I think would make redstone a whole lot easier is if you could somehow change the color of redstone dust, which would allow two lines to run parallel to each other. This would allow redstone contraptions to be compacted and for multiple circuits to run right by each other without messing the whole thing up. One thing you could do is maybe click the redstone dust with a dye to change it to that color, or maybe you would have to put the dye with redstone dust in a crafting table. Either way, redstone lines would be able to run directly by each other without messing the whole machine up.

MULTI-COLORED REDSTONE TORCHES
Basically the same idea as above. A dyed redstone torch will only activate redstone that it is the same color.

HOPPER PIPES
This idea actually came from a mod I saw called Hopper Ducts. This mod allowed these pipes (or "ducts") to be crafted, and when attached to a hopper, they would carry items similar to the way normal hoppers do. The biggest difference between hoppers and the hopper ducts were that the ducts could carry items upward. The pipes are also cheaper to make then normal hoppers.

FILTERED HOPPERS
This idea also actually came from the same mod, but it's a really good idea. Right now, to filter items through hoppers in vanilla Minecraft requires you to put 22 of the item you want filtered in the hopper, which is quite expensive if you want to filter diamonds, or emeralds. The filtered hopper would have a second GUI where you can put 1 of any item you want filtered through that hopper. The hopper will then only let items in the bottom GUI through. Very very useful for storage systems.

IF STATEMENT COMMAND BLOCKS
(Command blocks aren't really redstone, but it's close enough and I didn't think creating a whole new category was necessary) For those of you that have done programming, you know how useful an if statement can be. For those of you who haven't, an if statement basically works like this: If x, then y, but you replace the x and the y with what you want to test and what you want to happen if the test results true (Example: If you eat a sandwich, then you won't be hungry). I think a new command block should be added so that players can use if statements in their commands. I've been in a lot of situations where I've thought Man, an if statement would be helpful for this part of the map. I know you can kind of make if statements with multiple command blocks and the /testfor command, but the testing and the result for if the test is true could be put in one command block to simply it a lot. (Minecraft example: If @p is at 1789 61 562 then give @p diamond_sword)

To be honest, I don't do a lot of brewing in my Minecraft adventures. I just never looked into it and never had enough knowledge or motivation to actually brew anything. However, in some of my later survivals I have delved into the world of witchcraft and have noticed a couple of things that I might change. I don't think there is anything huge though.

NEW POTIONS FOR OLD EFFECTS
Right now, the only way to get haste is from a beacon, which is rather expensive to get. I think that adding haste potions would be useful for miners, because instead of having to make a beacon and a ton of iron blocks, you could just make some potions instead. That would also mean you could have a wider range of haste for mining, because you can only be a certain distance from a beacon before it wears off. You could make it by putting gold in a brewing stand, which would give gold a use. They could add potions for all the other effects that don't have potions, though haste is the only one that really matters in my opinion.

A USE FOR EMERALDS
Emeralds are the rarest ore generated in Minecraft, as they can only be found in snow biomes and only come in veins of 1 block. However, they really don't do much of anything. The only uses so far are trading with villagers, making emerald blocks which can activate beacons, and using an emerald inside the beacon to start it. While villager trading is useful, I think that emeralds should be able to be crafted into armor, tools, and weapons. These items would be better than diamond gear, but harder to obtain. Emerald tools would have more durability and more attack damage, while armor would give a few more bars and also have more durability.

And that concludes my Minedeas! I hope you enjoyed reading through my ideas, and again, I'm sorry if I accidentally copied somebody else. There will possibly be more ideas in the future, so check back every once in a while to see if there's anything new! Thanks for reading :D

Short paragraphs with several ideas. The use of pictures make things easily understandable. The ideas them self aren't bad. However I dislike the way pipe ducts can transfer stuff upwards.

Well made fellow contestant.

Interesting though, a lot of these ideas (half slabs, those hoppers, and etc.) have already been done and put into mods.

I know they have, and I guarantee that at least 95% if not 100% of all the ideas on all of the blogs in this contest have been in mods of some sort. Some people can't run mods though, due to lack of knowledge or lack of memory space on their computer. I think that these ideas, even though they are already in mods, should be added to vanilla minecraft to make vanilla more enjoyable for everybody.
