Have a score in your adventure map. This also makes the player more alert because they will want to collect all of the possible scoring items. This will make their adventure map experience more memorable. I personally use golden nuggets for score.

Seriously guys, if you are making a village for your map don't just make a wooden box and call it a house. Add detail to every building that you build. This will make the player remember your amazing builds and spread the world about your map.

Naming items makes your map unique. When you play minecraft a lot the names of items get really boring after a while. To spice things up in your adventure map name swords and armor things like "Robe of Sorrows" or "Derg's Flaming Dagger"
