CHAPTER FIVE
It was now about 2 a.m. and everyone was asleep- except me. Every time I laid down nothing would happen so I just decided I would stay up. Calypso started to stir around and sat up with a groggy expression, he stared dead at me.
“Why are you up?” He asked, blinking a few times.
“I can’t sleep.” I replied simply.
“I guess that’s a valid reason.. Is something up? You seem.. Distant.” Calypso asked.
“Just worried something is going to happen.”
“Ahh I see.” Calypso looked away from me. “I am going back to bed now. I hope you can sleep at some point..”
“Alright then.” I nodded.
“Wyvern?”
“Hm?”
“I’m always here for you if you need me.” Calypso gave a soft expression and a brief smile.
I nodded in reply and tried to lay down and sleep once more, however I found myself wide awake as before. I leaned against the wall and folded my arms, closing my eyes..
When I opened my eyes, it was morning. Guess sitting upright made me fall asleep after all. Calypso and Kaden were asleep, Sorren was playing with something in his hands. I stood and started to trail around the ship as I had done yesterday. Some of the ship’s crew members waved to me as I walked by, and I waved back to be polite. Calypso came behind me later on and tapped my shoulder.
“Hi!” He grinned.
“Good morning.”
“Taking a walk I see? Lovely floral scenery! A fresh smell of grass.” He winked.
“Oh yes, absolutely gorgeous.” I nodded, deciding to play along. “However, we should be there very soon. Probably in about an hour or so.. Do you know the way to your house though? Cause I certainly don’t.”
“I do, don’t worry!”
“That’s good.”
We continued to stroll around the ship, occasionally speaking but not much. Kaden and Sorren eventually joined us about half an hour later, after circling the ship’s deck about 10 or so times.
“You know we are just going in complete circles, right?” Sorren asked.
“Yeah, I mean.. Where else is there to go?” I said with a shrug.
“I mean that is true.” Sorren shrugged in return.
We continued walking for quite some time, then stood against the short walls around the deck to help avoid someone from falling off. The water was mostly calm however it seemed not to be because of the speed we were traveling at. I abruptly heard a loud bell when a man screamed.
“Now Arriving in Le Mans, France!!”
“Finally!” Calypso shrieked happily.
The ship was now pulling into a.. Very busy dock to say the least. We got off and made our way through the crowd of people, down a pathway and stopped. This now allowed Calypso to take the lead.
“Est-ce que ta mère est gentille?” Kaden said to Calypso. I did not have a clue on what that meant.
“Oui! Elle est merveilleuse.” He replied, turning back with a grin.
“Hey, Frenchies! Stop with your gibberish talk so me and Grumpy can understand what you are saying!” Sorren called with a tease and mischievous look. He wrapped his arm around my back.
“Jamais! Vous ne pouvez pas nous forcer!” Calypso yelled back. Kaden giggled and yelled something similar.
“We need our own secret gibberish talk, Wyvern.” Sorren said, elbowing me jokingly.
“Uh.. I’m fine with English thanks!”
“Suit yourself.” He said with a shrug.
It wasn’t long before we eventually reached the house of Calypso’s parents, he knocked on the door roughly.
“Une seconde!” A female voice yelled, I personally recognized this as Calypso’s mother.
The woman opened the door, white flour all over her clothes and face. Despite her appearance, she welcomed us with a smile. Calypso was hopping up and down in front of her and she hugged him in return.
“Where have you been?” She questioned.
“I was with Wyvern selling your stuff! It took a long time to get back, we stopped in Oxford and then got on another ship to get here.” He explained, then pulled the money he had earned from the pocket of his pants.
“You sold ALL of it?” She arched an eyebrow.
“Yep! I told you, I’m highly persuasive.” Calypso posed slightly with a smug expression. I facepalmed.
His mother took the money and laid on the wooden table near the back of the room, then turned back to us.
“Then what brings all of you here?” She looked at me.
“My mother wanted us to come here to let you know that we were okay and return the money that Calypso had earned. My mother wanted me to explain to you that Calypso was going to stay with us for a little bit. If that’s fine with you, Ma’am.” I explained, realizing afterwards how quickly I had been speaking.
“Ah I see.. Thank you for your concern and send my condolences to your mother. You can go but please don’t be too long.” She nodded, giving a short smile.
“We will try not to be.” Kaden cut in.
After a decently long goodbye, we walked out of the house and down the pathway back to the dock we had arrived at. A worker there directed us to a ship that would take us directly back to Oxford, so we boarded that one. It took off about half an hour after we boarded, so I tried to preoccupy myself by walking around the deck again. Calypso joined me as before but this ship was busier than the other 2 we had been on, so I decided to go into the haul to avoid getting in anyone’s way.
“That went better than I expected it to go honestly.” Calypso stated.
“Same here, I have seen your mother in her.. Bad mood before if that’s the way to put it.”
“Haha yes- she can be.. Well you get the idea I think!” He said with a giggle. “At least it went the way it did.”
“That is true.” I said with a shrug. “It’s probably going to take about 14 hours to get back to Oxford.”
“That is a long time when you say it.. Yet we have done that multiple times in the past week.”
“Wyvern! Calypso! Get over here!” Sorren yelled. We both ran over instantly.
“What’s up?” Calypso questioned.
“You wanna play a game?”
“Sure!!” Calypso nodded vigorously. “What’s the game?”
“The goal of the game is to see who can lift the most stuff! Like a strongest man game.” Kaden cut in with an explanation.
I didn’t have much desire to play this game, I wasn’t much of a show off.. At least I didn't think I was. The other 3 played while I stood to the side and watched, it was quite silly and amusing after all.
“Wyvern, come on, I know how strong you are! Beat these little wimps!” Calypso teased.
“Fine..” I walked over and picked up the first barrel, Sorren and Kaden slowly placed more items on top until I finally put it down.
“That was sooo good! How did you do that?” Kaden turned to me.
“I- uh.. I don’t know?” I replied, my face felt hot. “Gonna walk around some more.”
After I left, they continued to play the game. The wait wasn’t as bad as I thought after preoccupying myself with a bit of walking, greetings and other small things. I supposed we were just about twenty minutes away, finally we were going to get back to Oxf-
“Now arriving at the Faroe Islands!” Yelled the captain.
