Waking up......again. No matter what happens to me, I always wake up in the morning. Some call it a gift, I like to call it a curse. I always wake up while I am tortured by watching my people go through so much, and in the end, they don't wake up. Forever asleep, buried in a final resting place. My name is Steve. I am the last of the blockheads. This is the story on how my kind was massacred.
I was born hundreds of years ago, when the blockheads thrived. We ruled the cubical word. We created cities, monuments, towns, and so much more. It seemed as if our empire would seek no end.
   But then it came....
The darkness came. It brought its soldiers along with it. The creepers, skeletons, spiders, and zombies created chaos in our streets. We knew it was time to fight back. We went into the deepest caves of the earth. We searched for the most valuable of metals. We forged our weaponry. We fought them all. I was on the front lines of this great war. I hacked and slashed at these foul beasts. I chopped and sliced my way to peace. At least my idea of peace. Many of my comrades died in the Battle of Lornsville, the first battle in my town. I managed to get out alive. I enlisted into the army. I knew these monsters were no good. It was time for this to end.
And I fought. Endless months of pure bloodshed. I fought in multiple battles. My entire team was murdered in Battle of Capricorn, one of our highest death tolls of the war. I quit the army when I was informed that Lornsville was in danger and my mother was very sick. I took the first train to her, but when I got there, it was too late. She was dying. I held her in my arms, and heard her mutter her last words to me.
   "Don't die. Don't you dare."
I hid away in a bunker for the next few weeks to mourn my mother. During this time, I was approached by a few scientists, who had an offer for me. They offered me full protection of my father if I tested out an experiment for them. I agreed.
They took me to their lab. They sat me down in a chair, and restrained me with leather straps. I panicked. I started thrashing about the chair, in attempt to break free. Quickly, the scientists injected something into my neck, not to knock me out, but to calm me down. They informed me that I needed to be concious for this. One of the scientists pulled out a rather wide syringe full of a strange, orange liquid. Before I could protest, he injected it into my arm. I instantly broke out into a seizure, and then I blacked out.
I woke up later on a hospital bed. The scientists walked into the room after I woke up. They told me what the experiment was. It was a small computer chip which sent electrical pulses to my heart if it every stopped, along with genetic material which surpressed my biological clock. It made me "immortal" They carefully informed me that I could still die, it's just that I would wake up after I died. They claimed that they still had to test the experiment. I was confused. They already injected me, what else was there to test? I figured out what it was when one of the scientists pulled out a gun.
   Bang!
I woke up later that day. The first of many times I would wake up. I felt around my body, but I could not find a bullet wound anywhere. It was like magic. I got off the hospital bed, and saw a horrific sight. Both of the scientists were dead on the ground. I heard a zombie coming up the hallway. I leaped to the side of the door, out of sight of the zombie. It stopped outside the door, and hesitated. I was too scared to even breathe. The zombie continued walking down the hallway. I let out a sigh of relief. I ran out of the hospital. I looked up and nearly passed out. A massive ufo-looking thing was in the sky. In the middle of it was a giant circle thing which I could not make out. I climbed a tree to get a better look at it. I found out what the circle thing was.
   It was a nuclear weapon.
I ran for my life as the nuke was dropped. I knew it was the end. Once it hit, the force threw me to the ground. I could feel the heat of the nuclear radiation melting away my flesh as I slowly blacked out. I knew I was going to die, and I accepted it.
   But then I woke up.
I look around and see nothing. Just a barren planet, and nothing more. Who could have done this? I walk out a few miles, and notice no change. The bomb didn't hurt anything here, but the radiation killed everything here. I think the world would have been wiped out. I'm correct. Not a single sign of life. I was alone. Alone for the rest of eternity. Not to die, but just to wake up again. But I wasn't alone.
Darkness came back, bringing it's monsters of the night. A new thing came as well, hope. Hope brought me animals to attempt to keep my company on my lonesome travels. I began experimenting to attempt to bring back the blockheads, but the only result was a strange thing which I called a Testificate. No matter what I did, I am alone, and I will be alone for the rest of eternity, without death, but just to wake up.
Next time you play Minecraft, explore the world, and you may just find the bomb site which left Steve a lone wanderer.
