Hello, persons of the Interwebs! Oceanus5000 here, bringing you the latest news from....well, my head, I guess. (LOLWUT?)
Anyways, today's topic is:
MINECRAFT SERVERS
Now, you're all probably thinking, "What about Minecraft servers, Oceanus?" Well...it's the things about them that bug me so much. You've probably all seen the server banners that say, "JOIN NOW! TOWNY! SPLEEF! LWC!" or things like that. Now, you're probably just as confuzzled as Lewis from the Yogscast right now. Well, I absolutely can't stand servers like that! I mean, I can handle them, but it gets out of hand! Remember when Minecraft servers were actually vanilla Minecraft, without all the fancy things like: Lockette, Towny, MobArena, MCMMO, things like that? Those were good servers, weren't they? What happened to them all? I mean, sure, you had to protect your houses with lava pits and obsidian walls, but still! They were great server to play on! And sure, you lost those diamonds that you found that day to a PVPer, but hey, dying was part of the game back then, wasn't it?
True, plug-ins can make the game more fun, but what are you going to do when you get to actually playing regular Minecraft, without those plug-ins? It's hard to comprehend, right? Well, here's something to think about, from my personal experience:
Me and my friends RoyalChez and legolucky2940 were playing on MysteriousMC one day, and then comes this absolute jerk named BransonDao, who glitches through the doors of my room with some stairs I put on the inside, and then proceeds to try to murder me AND my friends. Unfortunately, he's the most lying player I've ever seen, judging by how much he says we grief our own base, when he's clearly the one doing it! Now, bear in mind that sitting on stairs was a server plug-in, and there were many bugs with it, like not being able to pick up items when you sat in them, and being kicked if you sat in one and got hit critically. So, he uses this glitch to his advantage, and tries to raid us. Luckily, we had locked all our chests beforehand, and the only things he got away with was a few pieces of armour, a few orbs of XP, and a few weapons, but not much else. RoyalChez lost a diamond axe to the guy, and we eventually reported him, and are still awaiting his ban. We still highly doubt he will, though, considering how he twists the story around to us griefing ourselves and breaking into HIS base, which was miles away from ours!
As you can see, plug-ins like that can lead to a servers' downfall, and very quickly, at that. I've seen many servers have to close because of this, many of them very good servers that just had to put that one plug-in that makes it so you can catch OP armour from fishing. I do hope all you people who have plug-ins like these to immediately uninstall them, or be on of many to have to close your server down because of that one BransonDao-like guy. I hope this has convinced you plug-in users to play the game the way it's supposed to be played and have fun, not rely on things like mods or plug-ins to do so. I mean, Aether, Technic, and Buildcraft are great mods, but don't rely on them so much to the point where you think Mojang should add all those things in! That's why they're called mods! They "mod"ify your game so you can use Minecraft a totally different way!
Anyway, this is a serious topic to think about. Think next time before you add that stair-sitting plug-in, or that LWC one....Think about how ashamed Notch would be if he found you used so many plug-ins on your server that people start killing each other for lack of resources. He would probably send the game back to the old days, when there were no NPC Villagers, Jungle temples and Desert Pyramids, new wood planks, or even Horses, for that matter!
