Well, it has been a while, but I am back, and with some promised theories on Minecrafts Hellish Nether!

While I slaved away, trying to figure out the temperature of the Nether, to see if survival is possible, I realised that I needed the specific heat of Netherrack in order to complete the formula Q=MSΔt .

Now, that seemed pretty easy to find, as oftentimes a quick Google search will give answers. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t have the specific heat of fictional materials like Netherrack–I can’t imagine why.

So, I opened a book, and tried to find materials that were similar to Netherrack. I found a few candidates, including cinnabar, a mercurian rock that was used in red dye, and hæmite, a rock that is similar to Netherrack, even down to the name “Bloodstone”.

Hæmite was actually a very, very good candidate, and was matching Netherrack in many properties. The one problem, and one that I would not ignore, was that it was a 5 or 6 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, meaning that it could not be a crumbly substance like Netherrack (For reference, gold, a notoriously weak metal, is only a 2.5).

Netherrack, for those who don’t know, can be broken with a wooden pickaxe quickly, and almost instantly with a diamond pickaxe.

Then I found realgar. Realgar is a very beautiful reddish orange stone that often forms crystals. It is only a 1.5 or 2 on the Mohs Hardness Scale and it is also combustible. The rock often emits what is known as arsenic disulfide, a gas that is poisonous, while not being harmful instantly. The idea of sulphur being in the Nether is a pretty basic one, obviously the Nether represents Hell (specifically the Christian iteration), with sulphur often being associated with Hell.

More hints at sulphur exist, however, with the Piglins’ blood being green. Green blood can be caused by a couple different diseases, but the most common and sensible one in this case is what is called sulfhemoglobinemia. They are either suffering for that, or what I’ve dubbed; “Censorshipitis”.

Anyway, arsenic disulfide is known to not be acutely poisonous, instead slowly killing victims. It has symptoms like irritation to eyes, lungs and the œsophagus–all of which were described by Guy in the novel “The Mountain” when he visits the Nether.

Thus, with the facts laid out before you, I hope that you see my reasoning, and believe my claims. Netherrack is realgar. Next up; Endstone (okay, maybe not). Anyway, this theory took weeks to make, and I don’t know if it was fully worth it. Anyway, I’ll see you next time, until then keep LOOOOOORING! Illager Blog coming soon!

It got way too stressful having people rely on me every week, I just needed a break. It is on hiatus indefinitely.
