What is the point of video games? It is a question of personal reference and is often debated in households all the time. So when my mom asked me why I played video games in the first place i gave her my two cents on the entire purpose of video games.

To me video games are an escape mechanism, They provide me a release from the problems of life and day to day problems of the world. They provide me an escape to release my anger, sadness, frustration, and above all creativity. They are an unique art-form that few pieces of literature, paintings, and even movies fail to succeed in, choice. It is the players choice of how the game will turn out and can range from not getting killed, to ordering certain things to overall changing the entire story. Video games have proven time and time again that they can effect us on a deep level of emotion.

Now do not get me wrong, there are those individuals that believe that video games are the worst abominations that mankind has ever created, right up there with the atomic bomb and slavery. But when asked why they believe this they will more then likely give some bat-shit crazy story of how video games cause crime and death in the world, and to those people I say: go away I don't like you. Because if anything, video games prevent crime from happening because of the way they were designed to be made for escaping into worlds beyond our own imagination. And while there are those games that make me want to hurt small puppies, There are those games that effect all of us Emotionally, Physically and even Spiritually in some cases and that is why video games exist.

What ever you might think, say, or do just remember... if the world seems bleak, and all hope is lost, just pick up that controller and forget all about it, even for just a second.
