What's Up With The Lack Of Quality in Story Blogs?
So, you may or may not know me, most likely you don't, but I'm a story writer. I'm definetely not that up there in the ranks but I try, but enough about me, as the title suggests this is a quasi-rant.
So I've been reading stories on PMC and most of them were extremely mediocre, leaning towards bad. I'm not going to name any examples but, oh god! I mean, oh god! The spelling and grammar is horrendous, it's not so original and the pacing is kind of awkward ( For those who read my story, yes I know mine takes a while to build up.) and there are little to no descriptions. The only excuse they have is "First time writing a story, be gentle!" etc.
Well , I'm pretty sure there's no difference in writing in PMC or in English class . If you wrote a story in English class then it's not your first time writing a story. This website is PG13, even if there are thirteen year olds making stories , they should at least have quality in them!
Damn it, I guess my expectations are too high. But don't get me wrong, I LOVE some stories on PMC, it's just a shame that there are not more of them...

I have to also disagree, you have alot to learn.
Reasons people dont type well on pmc:
minecraft is home to a majority of 1st through 6th grader (kids),
For Example, my cousins play minecraft with me all the time,
they are in 1st grade and yet do not type at all.
:3 Diamond~
*definitely
For those who read*my story, (not "ready" my story)
class. (extra space before period.)
at least (space missing between "at" and "least)
I think that you are right in that the quality of writing tends to fall below basic standards of spelling, grammar, story, and so forth.
But honestly? Of course it's going to be "bad" because of a number of factors outside the writer's control.
As a general average, most writers don't get published until they are in their forties. But the age group for this game is 11-20. I think that telling people to "just write better" isn't going to make everyone wake up and suddenly write better because they ARE writing their best.
It's not fair to assume they are stupid either, because the age group of this game means that they ARE in school learning how to write. Also, English class and creative writing ARE very different things and the latter is almost never taught in school. Most people here probably haven't seriously gone out to write something for marks, or else, it didn't involve getting any feedback that they could use to learn from it. It doesn't matter if it's your hundredth story or your first if you still have no idea what you're doing.
This is a minecraft site which allows blogs and stories, not an English class. Saying that they are the same is like saying that a youtube video about cats and a television show are the same thing. They aren't.
Also, it's hard to make minecraft fan-fiction not ... suck. It's a game that is really boring to explain to others in text because it's so interactively visual. And it's not going to be overly original because it's already "borrowing" all of its world from something someone else made. It's hard to make a good story unique and still follow the minecraft world rules.
Again, if you really are concerned about writing quality, then a more realistic solution is to make PMC a place where bad writing gets ignored, average writing gets feedback from others to improve it, and people start posting actual tips about writing better and spelling correctly.
If we make this an environment where people have no excuses and we don't encourage horrible work to end up into the pop reel, there will be no reason for people to just post something for attention because they won't get it and there will be opportunities for people to learn how to write better so that next time they post something great.
At least, that's one line of thinking.
I don't condone those who don't care enough to try, but at the same time, no amount of anything will convince them if they really just do not care. Because of that, these kinds of grammar debate posts only attract people who are looking to validate their beliefs on the topic and it doesn't ever really reach the people who actually should be reading them.
P.s IM SORRY ABOUT MY GRAMMER IN THE PREVEOUS POST!!! I was typing so fast...=^=
